oh okay…r u guys applying to sophie davis too?..do u guys think you’re going to get in?

Yea man I applied a couple of weeks ago. Now it’s just about waiting for a decision on whether i get the interview or not. I really do hope that I get in since this is definitely my number one school…we’ll see.

yeah I applied about 2 weeks ago…just hoping for the interviews now.

Oh thts cool. Hey guys I was just wondering what kinda ACT score you need to get into sophie. I just got back my results today and saw that I got a 28. is tht good enough for sophie davis?

Doglover… The reason why they want both ACT scores and SAT scores is to see which one you did better on. For instance, I came down with a fever and stomach virus on the day of the Sophie Davis ACT. I think I did very poorly. BUT they told me I’m fine judging by my SAT scores. So if your ACT is higher than your SAT (or vice versa) it will only help you.

Andy I don’t think that’s the reason that they look at both your SATs and ACT scores, because if that was the case then they would have given you the option to to send whatever you think you did the best on and not the other. They look for an ACT score of atleast a 26 so doglover you should be good.

The ACT exam is more important to the admissions committee than is the SAT exam. Nevertheless, neither will grant you admission into the program. The purpose of the exams are to simply assess if you are capable of handling college level work. That said, so long as you score a 25+ or a 1200+ you should be in good shape. I wish you all the best of luck.

hey does anyone know when we find out our act score? and how?

SophieD I have but one question. I was feeling very ill on the day of the exam (Sophie’s ACT). So I’m a bit worried about my score. First time i took the SAT I believe I got 1340 (760 math 580 CR). Second time it was a 1400 (770 math 630 CR)…my question is…Should I not worry about the exam?..Because I believe there is a 30 day waiting period in between ACT exams…So I cannot retake.

And Doglover…research is a biggie…make sure you emphasize it in some way or form (maybe through your recc. letters from your research teacher) or maybe in one of your essays. Every person I’ve met from Sophie Davis has been in Science Research and entered INTEL STS (not saying all Sophie Davis students have), but it helps big time.

Andy if you got a 1400 on the SATs you should definitely get around a 26 on the ACT, which doesn’t take much effort anyway, and that should be enough so don’t worry about it.

Iceman…You don’t understand how sick I became during the test lol…Lets just say it was pretty cruel.

Good Luck to the applicant pool for SD Class of '15 for the round of interviews! All of your credentials sound up to par when I was accepted for my SD Class of '13 and Im sure as usual you guys will bring alot to the table!

hey could someone chance me?
i have a math+verbal= 1290 1940 total
all my regents scores are 90+ except for chem (79) i know thats horrible but i was going through a few issues during that year
my ECs have been the strongest point (from shadowing docs to research to everything sci related)
my rank: ~top 10 percent i’m like 7/100 students
act: 28 composite
I haven’t taken physics in my high school but i have taken a college level physics course (with a college now program and received 5.0 credits for it) is it okay that i have not taken hs physics but have taken it in college?
and do i stand a chance? nearly 15-20 other kids from my school are applying as well…my essays are decent but there’s alot of competition =/

Hey,
GPA on 100 scale?
Whats the breakdown of your SAT (CR and math) and ACT (R, E, M, S)?

So anyone hear back from them yet?

no did you?

Honestly from reading the posts here, i see lots of students with pretty good stats and everyone is worried if they have what it takes to get in.
the truth is almost all of you do have the required stats for the program - the problem is the program just cant accept all of you.
So most of you are qualified and have the 1200 sat, 25 act, etc, etc but they just can’t accept all of you.

So what happens is Sophie Davis has to choose - and what are they going to choose based on? perhaps the interview, perhaps the extra curriculars you have, perhaps random factors we may not even know - like they want a Native American in their program this year maybe.

Thus you have thousands of qualified, amazing students applying for what - about 70 spots maybe - and you’re going to see people with higher stats rejected as well as people with lower stats. I just want everyone to keep their heads up because honestly the whole process is a crapshoot and since we can’t fully get in the heads of the Admissions Committee and don’t know exactly what they are looking for - when decisions come out it’s going to seem so random to everyone.

All I’m trying to say is with so many qualified candidates, Sophie has to decide one way or another - and just because someone gets in and you may not - doesn’t mean that much. It doesn’t mean that they are any bettter than you, it just means that it was a little random and Sophie just had to decide some way.

Sophie Davis seems like an incredible program for hopeful doctors coming out of high-school and I think it’s a good idea to adopt the attitude that
It would be amazing if you did get in,
but you realize that probability wise it is very unlikely, and so you shouldn’t be too upset if you dont get in - because chances are, unfortunately, if they choose 70 out of lets say 1000 kids that apply - chances are that you won’t get in.

With that level of understanding, and that take on the college applications process as a whole - I think you will be very well off for whatever life may throw at you.

that was inspirational ivy, but it hurts to admit that at this stage of the game. but yeah, everything is so random with these programs, it’s hard to guess what will happen

Hey everyone,

I’m really interested in the Sophie Davis program, but I have a pretty big problem. On the day of my Living Environment Regents back in freshman year, I had the flu. I still took the Regents, but I think a few of my multiple choice answers fell off by one question. I ended up scoring a 76*. I’m still a junior, but I’m really concerned about this… here are my stats

GPA: W 97.05, UW 93ish

Regents:
Algebra - 91
Geometry - 93
Global - 96
Living Environment - 76*
Chemistry - 94

I’m taking AP USH, AP Eng Lang, and AP Chem this year. I got a 3 on AP Euro last year. Do you guys think a solid score on the SATII Bio will compensate for the low Regents score?
