Wow this thread it dead lol. So has anyone applied yet?

Hello everyone,
I am a high school senior with gpa of 96
Sat Score:1680
MATH A:92
MATH B:90
SPANISH:84
CHEMISTRY:83
US:99
GLOBAL:98
PHYSICS:WILL TAKE IN JANUARY
What is my chance of acceptance to sophy

Aranstech what did you get on the math and verbal sections? the writing section is not looked at and the requirement is a 1200. and you said your taking the physics regents in January, i think the deadline is around there too. You should call admissions and talk to them about it.

I called admissions a month ago regarding the physics regents. Since alot of people havenāt finished the physics course until the end of their senior year, Sophie Davis wont look badly upon not taking the physics regents yet. If you get into Sophie, all you need to do is pass the physics regents in June basically lol.

So anyone who is applying to Sophie wannaā blow their horns a bit? Cāmonnn lets compare some stats =P

are pakistanis conider as a minority. also i messed up on my sat bio, so if i get a 800 do i have to send the bad score lol. i am just a sophmore now.
I am crazy abt sophie davis i want to get in!!!

As I understand it, there are a disproportionate amount of south asians in the field of medicine, so in this case, being Pakistani isnāt going to increase your chances (but it isnāt bad either). Just do well in school and get some leadership roles.

You can chose which scores to send to CUNY UAPC (the place you have to submit your scores for sophie) as it stands right now, but this option is so new that CUNYās policy might change when you apply in two years.

hey i had a question.
Do you suggest applying to SD if I want to specialize in some form of surgery after I graduate. If you do, would you recommend paying the $75,000 or doing the 2 years of Primary Care?
BTW my stats:
GPA: 3.81 weighted
ACT: 33 comp, 33 math, 35 sci, 31 eng, 31 wri
Class Rank: 2nd decile
Classes: AP Physics B(4), AP Chem, AP Computer Science AB(4), AP Us History(5), AP World History(5)
Extracurriculars: VP of Asian Cultural Society, Treasurer of Amnesty International(which my friends and I started), Secretary of Math Honor Society, Physics Editor for Science Mag
Honor: National Honor Society, Math Honor society, Social Studies Honor Society
Misc: am currently doing a program where I go to a hospital for half the day and complete rotations around the hospital every day. I also get to do an internship at a hospital department or doctorās office for a month.
Work: Kumon Math and Learning for almost 2 years
Volunteer: Robert Yeager Nursing Home (summer 07,08,09)
Do you think i have a good shot

You have a good shot, but whats your SAT scores? And you can be any type of doctor you want. Sophie wonāt limit you to just primary care. But keep in mind that the 2 yrs of primary care is valuable as you will be able to gain some experience. But if your totally sure that surgery is what you want to do then go for it.

I applied to Sophie Davis just recently for fall 2010. I am a little bit scaredā¦please tell me if I have a shot

SAT:1890
gpa: 98.57%

did a lot of volunteering, did research in lab for about 2-3 years, nice recs.
do i have a chance?

oh i forgot to mention I also took the ACT in december so I should be getting my results soon.

What is your SAT out of 1600 (CR and Math)? Considering they donāt even look at the writing section.

Do people actually do research or clean test tubes lolā¦

my sat math and verbal is a 1220

Icemanā¦ I created my own project using school fundingā¦an engineering projectā¦so no lol we actually do researchā¦and dogloverā¦a little low sat scoreā¦but ur gpa should make up for it.

well the thing is many ppl from my school apply and iām scared iām not going to get into itā¦i also was a new york science and engineering fair finalist and recently entered the intel science talent search competitionā¦do u know if sophie davis bs/md cares about research?

Research DEFF counts. And I doubt every person from your school who is applying to SD (Which Iām assuming is many) have a 98 GPA like yourself. If so, your school must be very inflated lol.

Research is good but it wonāt break you if you donāt have it. As long as you have met all the requirements and have written good essays, you can expect an interview from Sophie.

Well after the interviewā¦how do they select students?..cuz i heard tht after the interview they donāt look at the grades anymore

Once you get an interview, the grades are not a factor in you getting in. They want to get to know the person behind the grades and credentials. Show them that your passionate about Medicine and working with people.
