hey everyone, congrats on the acceptances! i was accepted too and i’m seriously considering it but i’m kind of scared to make the commitment to medicine haha. what makes you guys so sure that sd is the school for you? also curious about the towers/dining situation as i don’t know anyone who has experience with it haha, but i’ve heard that the cafeteria is far from the dorms?

so anyone else hear for dentistry??

For the person who is unsure, sophie davis is a program that you should be sure if you want to pursue medicine. My cousin said that there were people in the program in 1999 who werent sure and ended up dropping out because they couldn’t stand it. I think that you are sure you want to be a doctor if you honestly had the experience of volunteering with them and you could picture yourself as a doctor. If you legit want to help people and can handle stress, being a doctor is for you. I’ve been selected as an alternate so if you at any time don’t choose this program, tell sophie ASAP! lol

also, I’ve seen the dorms and it seems very nice…much nicer than new paltz and a lot of other schools!

I got in to sophie for bs/dds!!!
So excited!!

Accepted to the dental program!! Anyone else in ?

hey congrats NN40801!!!

I made it into Sophie BS/MD!! I’m thinking of commuting from long island and i was wondering if anyone else is thinking the same :)

to dainnspiration:
where on long island are you from? i’m definitely leaning towards the dorms for the first year, just because i want to get used to the area and the school, and perhaps the following year i could commute.

also, i got a call from a current student who told me there is a meeting this saturday in the conference room across from the admissions office at harris hall for accepted students and current students to talk, it’s from 11 am- 1 pm. (no parents)

is anyone else going??

Congrats to all who got in!

On the same note, careful about attending the program. If you want to get into Dartmouth, remember that there are only 1~2 seats available that you’ll be competing for out of a class of 75!

Regazzi addio!

^ dartmouth is no longer a match school for incoming classes. the last class to match to dartmouth will almost definitely be the class of 2012

how do you know that dartmouth is no longer a match school?
and why is that so?

i’m sure we’ll find out for certain tomorrow at the reception, i was told during a tour by one of the deans that they had to withdraw from the program because of financial issues. after talking to current students they said a lot of rumors are floating around about possible replacements, from the new hofstra lij school, to suny upstate, some people are even suggesting that weill cornell might take its place.

Hey everyone!
Congrats on your acceptances! Can you guys please post your stats both BS/MD and BS/DDs…it would be very helpful since I REALLY WANT to be in Sophie next year (I’m a junior this year)

Thanks so much!

Before you read my stats, understand that sophie, along with most other schools you apply to, will utilize a “holistic” process in considering your application. Dont let stats of rejectees or aceptees scare you away.

General advice to sophie applicants/ shared experience through process (pm me for info about admissions to other schools):

-show interest into sophie- i went to the open house for two consecutive years. they like, as does every other school, when you show interest. i also managed to get my name known through questions and the act test.

-dont worry too much about research and all that crap. thats not all they want. i didnt even do community service in a hospital. DO HOWEVER do as many community service hours as possible. dont kill yourself though. (thats obv not to say research wont help you. of course it will)

-just because your life doesnt revolve around science doesnt mean you wont be admitted. my school is based almost entirely on law (hence my extracurrics). i just wrote well about my law teams and how they allowed me to become more confident in my speech and in general. use what you have to your advantage. dont grieve about what you couldnt do.

KNOW YOUR ESSAYS for the interview, they do ask about them. for the essay about the most pressing issue in our country i actually had to bring in research that i didnt use in my essay (my interviewer supported obama, while i do not.) in the end, fortunately, she respected my dissent and said that its our civic duty to criticize.

-for what its worth to any of you, they liked the fact that i am a lifeguard. if i remember correctly i used that in my essays too (how the interactivity led me to choose a career in medicine)

THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE:
BE SOCIAL. i made my interviewers (who were both coincidentally women) fall in love with me. i made them laugh, and i smiled a lot. i know it sounds cheesy, but thats life. you have to flirt to get around. and i dont mean flirt in a sexual way. thats gross.

they told my guidance counselor that they also liked the fact that i am the president of my school (albeit a very small school). it shows that i am social and that i will be able to speak to my patients when i am a doctor (crosses fingers).

essentially, show them that youre a social person before you even get the interview (if possible). be funny in your essays if it doesnt show through extra currics.
when you do get the interview, be even more social!

feel free to ask questions! hope that helped.

hi! can anyone please tell me how to apply foor the queensbridge to medicine program.

General Question: Are you guaranteed to any medical school that Sophie is affiliated with?
And @chromo: why is Dartmouth no longer on the list because that was the school that I was most interested in.

hi! sophie is my dream schoool. my brother just finished his freshman year there and he loved it!
he got like an 1850 on his SAT and did had amazing college essays. On his Act he got like a 27. he didnt really have a lot of EC or community service besides his sports

im a junior now and i got a 1560 on my sat without studying…hoping to do better in the june one
i got a 690 on sat II us
4 on AP PSYCH
probably will get a 5 on AP US and a 4 on AP Lang
I have over 200 hours of CS from the hospital I volunteer at and i have a bulk of EC tooo many to list
and my essay will be pretty unique because im pretty sure no one will have the same topic as me
im so nervous…

What are my chances of getting into SD:

SAT: 660(Math), 640(Writing), 620(Reading).
ACT: 32
I am in AP Biology and AP Calculus BC…

EC: Member of the school newspaper, Arista , Cricket club. 50hrs of volunteering in the Library, 50hrs in local park, and 100hrs in a hospital. I also do tutoring as a job.

And I am Sri Lankan which I think is minority(I am the only Sri lankan in my HS)…

Hey everyone,

I know Sophie Davis requires both the SAT & ACT but do they request all your scores? I got a 2170 on the SAT the first time (690 in reading, 760 in math) and 2090 the second (700 in reading, 710 in math). I’m planning on taking the ACT in the fall. Is it worth it to take the SAT again in October?

Also, my SAT ii scores as of now aren’t very high…I want to ED/EA to Sophie Davis if possible, and then if I take a couple of SAT iis in November and do well, would it be possible to send the SAT ii scores to Sophie even after I submit their application, assuming I don’t get the SAT ii scores in time? I didn’t do so amazing on the Chem and Physics regents and I want to take the SAT iis to make up for it.

Thanks!
