And also since stony is gone others may leave by the time we even get to the point of med school. The med schools are also pretty low tier which may affect oppurtunities. If i instead went to cornell or brown, i would probably have better connections to a better med school and it seems sophie is harder to study than even regular med school. In my opinion the med schools affiliated are pretty bad now and its not even a secure way to become a doctor.

also the doctor i interned with that grad from sophie went to Darthmouthās and is surprised by the lack of good schools affiliated now. His graduating class was 5 btw so i dunno where u got 80 percent lol

Yes that is what I was afraid might happen, but there is no way to tell the future, particularly because Sophie still attracts a large number of talented students, who in turn are enticing to many of the affiliated medical schools.

Also, in 5 years, it is possible that Sophie will get the LCME accreditation, and students can get the MD degree from CUNYā¦ However, my question to Bigbajo is: Wonāt a degree from a newly accredited medical school, CUNY, hinder your residency and employment opportunities in the future?

Secondly, 5?? As in 5 people??? Or 5 percent??? LOL

Hey guys, Iāve been accepted to Sophie Davis also and just stumbled upon this looking up threads for it. I have a brother in his 5th year in the school, Iāve been around Sophie Davis and their many students during high school, and have also talked to many doctors and med students about the road to medical schools so I think I can help answer questions. Correct me if I get anything wrong though.

@MadBeast With the deal with the medical schools, as I have been in many medical school workshops including Columbiaās Med school, is that i found what they tried to drill in our heads was that the name of the medical school really doesnāt matter. As long as one can get into a medical school, the differences between a school, lets say Downstate and Dartmouth, shouldnāt affect residency program admissions. If you want to specialize, you shouldnāt obviously go to a med school targeted toward primary care, like the Ohio school. But do not undermine the schools Sophie has, Downstate and any other NYC medical school is in fact top notch. But again, its really what you make of it.

Now with your school choice, If you are really passionate about becoming a doctor, Sophie, I believe is the best road one can choose. I have been accepted into Brown and Cornell also, and my brother was accepted into Columbia, but once I was accepted into Sophie immediately made my decision. In the long run, whether prestige or not, the choice of undergrad will not really matter in your medical career. However, with Sophie it gives you a medically targeted program that will almost assure you a career in medicine. If you do happen to go to this school, many med school students who do the traditional route will envy you. Plus itās cost efficient! I highly recommend you go to Sophie

If a school is accredited why would it affect your chances. Even people who go to lower tier medical schools as you guys say, they still apply and can potentially make a great residency. Again itās what you do, and how you score at Step 1 in particular. Now Medical itās the same difficulty because it is same material so you will be studying all day at any medical school. Undergraduate, just like general chem and orgo, people change minds and change from pre med, people fail out in that time period.

Now Stony dropped out, but apparently they didnāt treat SD students very well.
If schools drop out, we get new partnerships. There is interest in promoting SD students with some medical schools because of their background but at times even some schools only want a particular race from SD or a particular sex and SD has denied to accept such partnerships. Sometimes they want more money, schools now sell their rotation spots to Overseas schools who are willing to pay a lot to get their students a spot there.

Cornell is a very high stressed program, very hard to stay per med track with their grading, I know friends there who are under so much stress. Brown I donāt know much about its pre med, but I have heard Brown is a more relaxing school.

However if you are picking between Ivys and SD, I am sure you will do just fine at either if you really want to pursue medicine. Both have its challenges, at Sophie your in a more doctor environment early on and have less to worry about because of no MCATs.

5 people? What year did he graduate in? More recent like last two years, about 2/3-3/4 of class remain at end of program. When the program first started, according to Deans, everyone made it through, now not sure if his class had 5 people or more, but you have to ask your doctor what he meant with 5.

Pick what feels right, but do know that any track has its stress, from any track you can do whatever residency you want to, though the point of SD is to get you to he more focused about community medicine, you can do either.

^Yea what he said lol

S is thrilled to be accepted and definitely will be attending! Decision now is to dorm or not to dorm? Commute is an hour an a half, but dorming is expensive. Cheapest option is $11,000 and that without food. BUT, if dorming will help him be more successful in the program, then the decision is made! Heād appreciate any thoughts from current students.

he meant that the 8 who went to darthmouth with him 5 grad from there and also how do u know about dorming and stuff already? I didnāt get any info on this stuff yet, and the price per year of sophie either

Sophie is cuny prices, aprox $5,400 per yr. Checked out the dorming prices on the ccny website. There are 4 dorming options.

Ok, ok I get you lol

could u send me the link for the dorming prices? and also there isnt a dorm for sophie or is our dorm just a dorm near the building for sophie?

Itās the reg dorm, towers, but thereās a sophie floor. Iāll look for the link and post it.

Itās ccnytowers.com

Thentowers is the only dorm on campus

My daughter is 3rd year and doing great! Dorms-They are pricey 10,000-11,000 per year depending on room type. They are located at 130th Convent Av, about 5 blcks from CCNY center. They have cafeteria with soso food but lots of eateries surrounding campus such as subs, chinese, spanish, cafes and so onā¦ My D moved from dorms for second year and lives just outside the 140th Convent ave entrance to CCNY . She is now 2-3 blocks from most of her classes. She also pays less than towers for her own room in apt shared by 3 girls. I love the program and is so worth the savings. We do have concerns with her placement but NYU, DownState , Westchester and Albany have very good medical programs. I work at StonyBrook and was pretty disappointed that they pulled out. There are still options and they are good ones. I highly recommend and wish all of you the best in where ever you choose to go!

Yolie3000, thanks for your reply. Any Info from veterans is highly appreciated. So it sounds like forming in the towers makes sense for the first year, til they get to know each other and can then choose people to share an apt with. Does your daughter generally come home weekends?

Yolie3000, if your daughter is 3rd year, she probably knows a student named Charles S? He went to the same HS my son is now graduating from. If possible, can u ask your daughter to have Him contact me, I guess via this site, I have questions that he might be able to help us with.

btw did everyone get their results? if so is there a group for the 2020 class?

There is an official facebook page called āSophie Davis Class of 2018 Official Accepted Students Thread.ā

Also, my brother along with many of the fifth years did not dorm, meanwhile many have apartments. If money is tight there is nothing wrong with commuting, you just need to learn time management!

Madbeast, thereās a Facebook group called Sophie davis class of 2018 accepted students. So what do you think? Will you be joining the class?
