Really looking forward to accepted students day on April 21st! S xNt wait to meeteveryone.

Do we use the east entrance for the NAC building?

Madbeast, were you at the reception today? It was very exciting to be there. Have you decided to attend sophie? If yes, will you be commuting, living in the dorms or in an apt off campus?

Does anyone know how many applicants applied and got accepted to attend the fall semester of 2013 ?

I think they usually take a class of 60-70. I was accepted but will not be attending. Best of luck to everybody!

Would you mind posting up your stats ? I would just like an idea of what most people’s stats are who apply to this program

Look at the BS/MD results thread around page 5 or 6.

Medsaf, they said at the reception that the average SAT this year was 1410 and the average gpa was 95. The acceptance rate is in the single digits.

@insanemom if you’re GPA is lower than 95 but your SAT score is way above 1410, do they still consider you or is it definitely a no?

I think that I can answer your question MEDSAF…

I had a 92.96 gpa and a 1410 combined CR+M and I got accepted. So i do think that you can still have a shot.

I think that GPA is pretty much relative to the school you go to and your rank… i.e my rank was #4 with my gpa…

Medsaf, I agree with CUboundscholar, the stats I stated were the average, so some accepted students had lower numbers ( while others had higher). If you’re in the range, definitely apply, especially if you can communicate in your application your passion for medicine.

@CUboundscholar @insanemom thank you guys for the information and I definitely will try my very best to achieve my dream of getting accepted in sophie davis :)

MEDSAF - I think GPA and SAT scores are only one aspect of the application and of course average scores from a class doesnt mean that is what is expected for everyone. There could have been a few students who skewed the averages up for instance. Plus the essays are really important in knowing who you are, the numbers dont tell much.

Either way what is important is your passion, desire and understanding what you are getting into. Especially the understanding of what it means to become a doctor, the sacrifices you would be making, etc. I suggest you get a first hand experience of medicine, or talk to a few doctors, and then decide if Sophie is right for you. Best of luck.

@BIgbajo, if S takes AP english lit and scores a 4 or 5, what does that exempt him from? how does that impact the 6 credit english class they take fall semester freshmen year?

Also, would AP calculus AB be counted toward an elective or a required course?

calculus would be counted as an elective course, and ap english lit can get him exempt from half of the 6credit course, and in that case he would take another 3 credit course. Unless he has both ap english courses which can grant full exemption.

If he is exempt from half the course, I would still recommend the 6 credit course if its Narrative to Medicine, it was a great course, great stories to read and excellent professors. That FIQWS narrative medicine course was wonderfull, but not sure if they offer it every year, otherwise he can get exemption, take the 3 credit course and maybe take something else he is interested in or fullfil later requirements and maybe find a passion in something else.

Thanks for you advice and input. very much appreciated!!

due to recent cuny core changes, i am no longer sure what ap english will do, because fiqws narrative medicine has become a required course. Please ignore that till you guys receive your registration packages.

I can’t seem to find online information about Sophie Davis BS/DDS program. Does anyone have the link? Why is it so difficult to find these programs? It’s like they bury them in their internet maze.
