I’m currently a freshman in 3 AP classes (bio, micro, and human), and I’ve been doing well in them (all very high As). I have the option to take either 3 or 4 AP classes, so my schedule next year would be as so:
AP World
AP Lang
AP Euro
Latin II
Honor/GIfted Chem
APES/AP psychology (optional)
My question is, should I do the fourth AP, which would be APES or AP Psych? I know I would be able to handle 3, and most likely 4, but I do XC and Track and I plan to get involved in clubs (haven’t done any this year) as well as possibly found on. Any help?
AP Psych can be done with self-studying, all you have to do is memorize the terms and apply them to real life (what the AP exam really is). I kinda regret taking the course quite frankly lol
As for APES, despite of what people say, this is a hard course. It’s very integrated (bio, physics, chem, you name it) and yes there are some elementary questions but then there are those that are difficult. 25.6% of APES students got a 2 last year, and 27.2% of APES students got a 1 last year. This course isn’t a joke and is overrated on how “easy” it is.
Since you don’t have a science, throw in APES in there - that is what I would do if I were you. Don’t let your sport and clubs get in the way of your academics though and you will be fine.
@elefish92 actually I do have a science, which is honors Chem. Do you think that since I would have taken AP Bio and would be taking chemistry, that would make APES easier?
I did not see that, apologies. Lol
Mhm, if you build background in Chem and Bio, APES will most likely be a breeze.
From the College Board itself: “PREREQUISITE:
Students should have completed two years of high school
laboratory science — one year of life science and one year of
physical science (for example, a year of biology and a year of
chemistry). Due to the quantitative analysis required in the course,
students should also have taken at least one year of algebra. Also
desirable (but not necessary) is a course in earth science.”
I say if you want to go for the fourth one do it. AP World isn’t too hard of a course, it can just be a tad boring at times due to the fact that it covers such a long span of history. I can’t speak for the others, but I’ve heard AP Psych is an easy self study and the exam is very easy and straightforward.
