I am trying to decide what dorm to request at my housing appointment for next year. Hopefully this doesn’t get too long, but I have a few questions. My top priorities are having a single, and a more private bathroom than I currently have in Warren. However, I know that singles are limited and I have a pretty awful lottery number (>1600). Should I stay in Warren and do internal selection to make getting a single more likely? Or would there still be singles available at community selection? Also, what is the likelihood of getting a single with such a high lottery number?

I’d say the likelihood of getting a single is probably pretty low if you meant that your number is higher than 16000? 1600 would be an entirely different story. If it’s 16000+, I would internally choose Warren. Then, you can apply to be considered for a swap in the Housing Office at 25 Buick too. They give you this form that you can rank where you’d like to live if such an option opens up. That way, you can try to get a single in a different location if one opens. They’ll call you if a place that you rank becomes available. You’ll have 24 hours to either accept it or stay wherever you previously chose.

Ok, thanks. Yes I did make a typo, meant 16000. When can I fill out the form? Now? Or not for a while?

I’d also see if any singles in myles are open–some of them have private bathrooms. if not, then try warren.

I can’t go to internal selection then check at community selection if Myles or anything else is open, right? I can only go to one?

Yeah, you can do only one. But if you have such a high number I would recommend going through community selection and then seeing what is there and then, if Myles isn’t open, getting Warren again. Then I would suggest summer swap. Every person that I knew would had a number in the last 1700ish numbers got pretty much what they wanted through summer swap and ended up in some really nice areas of campus and some of the newly renovated Brownstones.

You should do summer swap. The higher/worse your number is, the better chance you have of getting a better room through summer swap since the lottery works backwards. If you are trying to look for a single (aka not doing summer swap with a group of people) your chances of getting what you want are even better. I would definitely recommend summer swap!

Myles has singles and so does South. Not sure if you want or can even get Stuvi/1019 but maybe through summer swap. Good luck!
