My child is in Wall where there is about 400 students with 3 kids to a double and 2 to a single. Weatherhead is smaller with about 265 beds. I have not heard of adding additional beds to rooms there. It seems Sophomores get a random housing signup time. So how will Housing decide who gets in Weatherhead? I realize there will be some attrition due to transfers or not continuing Honors but that’s about 135 student difference. How will they fit them in?
My daughter (class of 2021) was in Wall last year and is Weatherhead this year. I was concerned about the same thing, but everyone eligible got into Weatherhead without any tripling this year, and I believe (don’t quote me on this) that there was even space leftover for non-Honors students. I think quite a few sophomore Honors students elect to live elsewhere, perhaps with non-Honors friends. Also, my daughter had one of the last housing sign-up times for Weatherhead, but her room is actually very nice. Good luck!
My son is the same as @momandslp. He had a double/single suite last year in wall and is in a double/double this year. Early this semester the second person in the other double moved to another dorm so they have a double/single again. I know of another girl whose currently in a single in Weatherhead because her roommate requested a single from the beginning and one became available mid semester. Worry more about Junior year housing
Residential Life sent an email last week that said not everyone in Honors will get into Weatherhead – too big a class. Students should plan on looking at all options.
Dear Parent-
As the Fall 2018 school semester comes to a close at Tulane University, we want to encourage you and your student to start thinking towards the spring semester and our Returning Student Room Selection process. This process will officially kickoff early in the spring semester. We are reaching out to you because your student currently lives in the First Year Honors Residential Learning Community (RLC) in the Wall Residence Hall. In partnership with the Honors Program, we offer an upper-class Honors Residential Learning Community experience in Weatherhead Hall, an option for your student to consider as they start to look towards the 2019-2020 school year. Living in this RLC offers a number of academic and learning opportunities, including access to a Faculty in Residence, seminars given by faculty at Tulane about their research, and sessions about the Honors thesis and other research opportunities.
The application process for this community is competitive, and space in this RLC is limited as this is a smaller community than the First Year Honors RLC. Selection for this RLC is partly dependent upon the student’s participation in their current learning community. We would like to encourage you to talk to your student about this opportunity as well as explore the other residence halls for upper-class students we have on campus. Students will be receiving more information about Returning Student Room Selection after winter break.
You can find more information about our upper-class living options on our website: https://housing.tulane.edu/housing-options/our-communities.
Thank you,
Housing and Residence Life
