I am looking for advice for a friend’s son. He is currently a freshman at UMD and is looking at various housing options for next year. The fraternity situation did not work out as he had hoped. He is an all-around great kid- smart, out-going, loves sports and is very social. Any suggestions? Apartment living or suite style dorms for sophomores? Which ones do you recommend? Thanks for your help!!
Suite style dorms. However, I will tell you that with the lottery system, it is still difficult for freshman(rising sophomores) to get the exact dorm of their choice unless they know an upperclassman and can get pulled in to opening in a room. ResLife always honors mutual pull-in requests.
Back in the dark ages, I lived in Leonardtown my junior year but the only way I could get that was to split up from my roommate. She got put in old Leonardtown and I got new Leonardtown. We loved it but I will say that not being in the heart of campus made it require more effort to get to class and be involved in school events. That was fine as juniors because we were already set in that respect, but sophomores still need more time, in my opinion, to be in the thick of things.
Thanks maryversity…What suite style dorms are in the heart of campus that will give him an active social life? Thank you!
Oakland is a good one from what I’ve heard and the only suite style on north hill…on south hill there are lots but I’m not sure exactly which are best …
If I may, What was wrong with the fraternity situation?
