Sophomore Schedule

I need help deciding my classes!! My mom thinks these classes I want to take are crazy, and won’t allow for social time. I also want to perform in my schools shows. What do you think?
Honors Chem
AP Euro
AP Seminar
Algebra 2H
English 2H
Theater 2
Band

My mom thinks I should take World History over summer to get it out of the way, and not take Euro. However I really do want to take Euro!! Thoughts??

I think if you’re interested in the class and think you could handle it, you should take it. It does sound like you’re going to have a busy schedule next year though.

these classes arent difficult. the only problem can be ap euro. everything else is easy

thanks for the help guys! All I am worried about is AP Euro, I really want to take it, but it is difficult, but the teacher is AMAZING, like the best in the school, so I don’t know what I should do. I am just worried about the minimal free time I will have. Any thoughts about easier/better classes to switch to as well?

I struggled with euro my sophomore year but it really prepared me for apush this year and it was very interesting. I also had a great teacher and was able to get a 5 on the exam. If you know you can manage your time and have a great teacher, I think you should go for it! If you had to switch, try human geo if your school has it? It is very easy and not well regarded, but it’s still an AP class that will raise your gpa. You could try world too. If you are good about controlling yourself and avoiding procrastination, you should be fine.

agentaquastar what book did you use to study for the test? I just took the APHG Test yesterday, so human geo isn’t an option

You should be fine. English, algebra 2, and chem aren’t really time consuming. You should be good on time since you have two easy fine art classes.

@Bobbybob444555 please don’t describe fine arts as easy; both band and theater take a lot of time. They may be more fun for the op since they’re electives he/she chose, but those types of classes are in no means easy blow of classes.
OP: If you like history, I would take AP Euro, otherwise, you might wanna skip it. Have you finished your foreign language yet? That’s important too, and if you need more credits for the type of schools you’re interested I would replace Seminar with it and keep Euro.

I bought the Princeton review and later also used 5 steps to a 5 when someone gave it to me. I think you’d be fine with just the Princeton review

I think this course schedule is strong and manageable for a sophomore HOWEVER I agree with @snowfairy137 about foreign language. I also agree replacing seminar with foreign language would be a smart decision. A lot of schools really value foreign languages and many want at least 3 high school years.

@snowfairy137 Fine arts classes are easy. If you sign up for the class, you’re interested in taking it. Teachers for those classes grade very leniently too.

@Bookgal12 @snowfairy137 I take my foreign language, Hebrew, outside, so that isn’t a problem. Thanks for your advice!
Also, my mom wants me to keep sharp over the summer, have you or anyone, heard about taking AP Psychology online? Thanks again!!

I have heard of people taking AP psych online however don’t think that it makes much sense especially over the summer.

  1. How will you remember all the material for the May AP test? You sound busy already why would you want to add more work (reviewing material)
  2. I really don’t think taking AP psychology online will really add much to your colleges apps, you already have 2 APs. BUT if you have a profound interest in psychology then maybe it would be worth it for you.
I do agree with keeping sharp over the summer . For example, this summer I am taking Biology so I can take AP Bio during the school year.
My recommendations for “sharpening skills” over the summer:
  3. Start studying for SATS (I know a lot of people may disagree but it is never too early to start prep, as you move into sophomore and junior year you’ll have less and less free time. I started this year as a sophomore and think it was a great decision.
  4. Get ahead and prep for the courses you are taking sophomore year, give yourself ahead start
I am not saying not to take Psych over the summer just make sure you are taking it for the right reasons.
