My son is a sophomore in high school. He has been playing for soccer since 3rd grade. This year he changed his soccer team to a better team and more expensive. I paid around $2500 annual fee.
Now he is very much interested in doing running (cross country, track, indoor track) in school and wants to either leave soccer or do both. He is also in few clubs in high school. Because of all this his grades are going down.
I was wondering - if he can drop soccer and if possibly we could get any refund. From any experienced parents with a kid being in too many activities and grades going down - any suggestions how to handle the situation.
Secondly - the soccer fee is non-refundable - will it make any sense to approach the soccer coach for any refund?
Really, how would anyone on CC know if your soccer fee is refundable? I’d guess it is not. You have to decide if you will require him to play to get your money’s worth. The money’s been spent
My experience is that dropping one activity doesn’t make grades suddenly go up, especially if it is an activity the child enjoys. If he doesn’t use the time for soccer he’ll probably spend more time on video games, watching soccer on TV, or (in his case) running.
I’d look at his schedule and see what he can organize to make more things possible. The soccer and running should be complementary - working at one helps the other and doesn’t require dual effort. Does the schedule have enough time in it for studying? Is he willing to study late into the night or on the bus to events or on Sunday mornings? What’s he willing to do?
He leaves home at 6:30 Am and come homes back around 9:00 PM. Because of all the activities. he is doing h/w in bus and in school. But weekends he is not spending that much time to catch up.
I am hoping somebody else has been in similar situation where kid overbooked himself and just hoping for some guidance.
