I looked through Brown’s website, but I was unable to find their policy on whether sophomore teacher recommendations are okay.

Does anyone know whether Brown accepts recommendations from sophomore teachers? Is there a source I missed somewhere that states Brown’s policy on this?

I think it’s okay to submit a rec by your sophomore teacher. The only thing you need to know is that the teacher really knows you well, who you think can write something unique about you. For example, your character, personality, and etc.

The reason why most of the colleges will need you to submit a rec by your junior teacher is because it’s recent. The teacher knows you not long ago, and he/she would write a better rec than the other teachers would.

^It’s okay if it’s from a junior teacher, it’s [probably] better if it’s from a Brown Alumni, and it’ okay to submit one from another year; but getting a rec from a couple years back should be really strong, otherwise it can give off a weakness: the impression that you didn’t change, progress over the years, didn’t build relation with junior teachers, etc. At the same time, it’s better to get recs from teachers who you are comfortable with~ imo
