sophomore vs junior transfer, and q about FA

Does anyone know which is easier, transferring in as a sophomore or a junior? I'm sort of hoping for this to be one of my last posts in this forum, as the more I think about it the less I want to transfer, but I like to cover all my bases in case I have to resort to "plan b"

also, when are most FA stuff due for transfers? and is it the same with most schools requiring both CSS and FAFSA?

this is for someone with very strong HS stats (4.0, 33 act, NMF, national ap scholar) and pretty decent HS EC's (club president, 4 yr varsity + team captain, tutor, organized a charity, etc... good, but nothing amazingly outstanding). i'm thinking sophomore would make it a bit easier, unless I become very involved and am able to keep a 3.85+ over the first two years? (which I hope to do, but no guarantee of course)

the schools I would consider are some I didn't really look into during frosh cycle (and hence did not apply) like UPenn, MIT, Y

thanks!

bump? :(...

Depends on the school. You mentioned Upenn -- Wharton prefers sophomores transfers to junior transfers. Any others?

Yale I think prefers juniors... but they (obviously) take both.

I'm stuck with the same dilemma now too... I'm not sure if my HS stats, though strong, will be able enough to get me into some colleges I want to transfer too. So yeah, assuming a good college record, I'm still not sure I could get into some colleges I want to go to.

If your HS stats are good then I wouldn't worry about it. If they expected your HS stats to be stellar, then most transfer students would be SOL, as there's usually a reason they didn't get into that school during frosh admissions (assuming they applied there). Besides, you're done with high school, there's nothing you can do at all to change that record, so there's no point in worrying about it. Instead, focus on how you can improve your chances through your college record.

the schools listed are probably the only ones I'd considered.

my main concern would be that as a junior transfer I'd lose the advantage of my HS record.
