Hi, so I’ve been watching those “How to get into blah blah” college videos, and I’m feeling a bit nervous, as most of these people have well beyond 4.0 UW GPAs (and even W). Here are my GPAs so far:
Freshman Year, First Semester: 3.40 (W…yes I know this is really bad. I got a C in Exploring Computer Science which is what is dragging the GPA down. I have no interest in majoring or even studying in a field that has to do with Computer Science but I’m worried that this is going to make me look bad.
Second Semester: 3.80 (W, which is okay, got two B’s and the rest were A’s. Took Honors English, Honors Bio and Algebra 2).
Sophomore Year: 3.60 (Once again, W, and really bad. Got 4 B’s and 2 A’s…really bummed out about this one. Took AP World and Honors Chem/English.)
Currently I’m in my second semester, set on course to have all A’s by the end of the semester (which will be a 4.40 Weighted GPA). I have a couple of questions:
-
How poorly will my first three semesters reflect on me, and how badly do they affect my chances (in particular the C in ECS)?
-
What do colleges think when they see improvement? Do they think “Wow this is improvement” or will my poor early semester GPAs just get in the way?
-
What are my chances of getting valedictorian? (At least 4.0 average (weighted))
-
What can I do to further improve? I plan to take 3 APs next year but I fear this won’t be enough, but my parents don’t want me to take anymore than that because I’m in Marching Band and have volunteering at the animal shelter.
Sorry if this is a lot. Thanks to anyone who can answer my concerns!
