So I was wondering but when do you go on the combat survival trip and what is it specifically? I mean like what kind of things do you do etc.? Is this a mandatory thing or do you have a choice of things to do? I believe its called combat survival but i’m not sure…

thanks

CST is being phased and switched to SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) (pretty explanatory). CST is simplified version without resistance. (I believe?)

resistance? can you expound please...

The SERE cadre will capture everyone and you will have to learn how to resist the captors, like in a POW situation, and learn what to do to gain the psychological advantage over your captors

???

I am pretty sure SERE is not coming back for a couple of years. I know some people have said differently, but I'm pretty sure they're just getting SERE and CST confused. You guys (2012 and 2013) will be doing CST (the summer between 4-dig and 3-dig years), as half of my class is doing this summer.

There were some major problems among a very small number of the Resistance cadre at the Academy (it's what started the whole Sexual assault talk here). When CST was brought up again, they made a point of saying that it will only be the Survival and Evasion portions of SERE. The Academy is not doing the Resistance and Evasion parts right now. Although it's possible that you guys might get full SERE, that is not currently the plan (at least according to what we have been told).

No Falcons, according to my AMT who is a CST/SERE dude for this year and next, SERE will be reinstated for 2012. Cadets will not take part in resistance training to remedy the past problem. It's pretty far in the works I understand.

Ok, well I was misinformed. Thanks for correcting me hornet.

Well, I was somewhat right about the Resistance stuff. Have fun with that!

thats awesome. thanks

Wait so 2011 is not getting the whole SERE program, but 2012 is?
And what is up with the rabbit?

"SERE will be reinstated for 2012"

CST will not count for 2011 since its more of a pilot program, but SERE will count for 2012, meaning they won't have to do it later.

This page has some good information on the SERE classes in the past.

pssgiraffe08 - The information about the rabbit is in the third paragraph, although it is probably the nice way of putting it.

I'm going to find out where CST is and hide MRE's in the woods for all my poor classmates who will be suffering in the woods while I'm chilling on ops! :)

Ohhhhhhh :( Redhead. Potter is really bumbed out about the whole CST thing. Try and make it a good one (Spaghetti or something like that).
