I'm a sophomore in high school--should I take the SAT subject tests this spring? I'm in honors bio and honors chem at the moment.

Definitely do take them toward the end of the year, after you have studied for finals.

Yeah. Don't wait until you're a senior, like me, and realize all of a sudden that you haven't taken a science SAT yet, and then you'll have to get the prep books and relearn everything. Ugh, just all-around bad experience. Take it when its fresh.

I agree, take them in June. I recommend that you get a prep book and start studying now, even though you are in honors. That way you will definitely get 700+.

Are you planning on taking AP Chem/Bio? They cover the Sat 2 and beyond so unless your Honors course covered the same material you should wait. There's no real reason to take them now unless you're not taking the AP versions.

^ I agree.

"AP" is a pretentious label that inflates grades and self-worth.
I'm sure the OP's knowledge of the two subjects is great.

"'AP' is a pretentious label that inflates grades and self-worth."

first of all, no. second, there is no doubt that AP students learn a broader range of material.

omg def. not true. ap bio cover ALOT MORW material. i realized that after taking bio sat after bio honors and only getting a 650 realizing that only about 20 % of what i learned in bio honors was o nthe test. most of it is learned in ap bio. i mean i even studied harder bu tstill only got 670 next time bc i didnt have a full year of ap bio behin dme. trust me. go for tkaing it after ap bio if you can. unfortunently for me im taking ap bio right now (senior year) and i didnt have that choice

I've heard that you should wait to take AP before taking Bio, but that Chem can be taken after one year's worth of material.

So take Chem, but definitely buy some prep book(s) and review.

@smiley442: whatever you may hear, my advice to you is to pick up a test prep book or two (from the library if you don't want to buy them too early) and look through the questions.

if you feel halfway confident around them, then devote several months to those books and you shouldn't have a problem. personally i'll be finishing AP Chem before my SAT 2 Chem but that's only because I hadn't taken the time to look through a prep book yet and now that I have, I'll be taking the SAT2-Chem as my next convinient calender date.

I think it's better that you take your SAT II's at around the same time as your AP's (so you don't have to learn everything twice), but if you take some practice tests and feel pretty comfortable, go for it!

"if you feel halfway confident around them, then devote several months to those books"

don't devote several months to any prep book under any circumstances.

several = 1-2.
my bad.
