Sororities at UCR

Hi,
I'm going to be an incoming freshman, and I would love to have an idea about each sorority to see which one I would "fit in best."

Fraternity member here. I don’t think any sorority members post here.

I’m going to assume you’re talking about joining the typical sorority. There are 6 on campus: Kappa Kappa Gamma, Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Gamma, and Sigma Kappa. When you go to orientation, there’s this expo thing and each sorority has a table. You can meet them, see who you like, and then register for rush which takes place in Fall Quarter. There will be plenty of time to see where you fit in.

A piece of advice I have for anyone who wants to join a fraternity or sorority: Meet the members and see who you fit in with the best. Don’t listen to others’ opinions/ideas about the different organizations. If you come across anything like this, ignore it. If you join a sorority while having other peoples’ opinions and ideas in your mind, you will probably have a ****ty time.

THANKS!! Appreciate it

See who you fit in best with… … keep you’re mind open about any sorority! BUT. like any school, there are favorites and there are some… less in the spotlight.

Rankings&Comments by a Fraternity Member:
1] KKG/GPHI - social… tend to attract the cuter girls. Sometimes they think they are too good for some though… but I mean, at the top, you do have some leeway when it comes to “self-entitlement”… but that is only a FEW members… Generally… both are a GREAT group of girls, fun, socially active, and smiled upon by almost every fraternity!

2] AXO - fun… they are a fun group to hang out with! Many girls in AXO are surprisingly…middle eastern.! I know many, I’ve dated some. Also, great group of girls ! Handful of cute ladies, respected on campus…

3] PiPhi… well… we do not know really what they do. They are a sorority that is just kind of there. Not very involved. Not very social at the moment. Neutral… LOL

4] DG… some girls are pretty cool. Many are not. DG is sooooo strict on their girls that most never just relax and have fun at social events. The executives stress SOOO much on rules, restrictions… etc. They are just not as fun as they used to be. Typically, they have many asians and a handful of cute social girls who break the rules but pay the price. I know more than one considering deactivating due to this… many are relatively bland and not very eye-catching. Known as the “smarter, nerdier” sorority… but from what I’ve experienced…pretty average… with the strict rules…below average.

5]SK… sorry ladies… but you are down here… at the bottom. Problem is… they have a bad image. It’s hard to get out of the “bottom house” rut, as top tier girls do not want to join. SK consists of many females that maybe didn’t make it in to any sororities or generally aren’t the sorority type (which is pretty difficult to achieve due to the large diversity the Greek system at UCR possesses). They are though, very nice girls. As fraternities give them a chance, they will see they aren’t bad. Just not very attractive… which heavily effects their first impression as an organization when you meet them…which also is the most important one…

so theres my drop dead honest list. I’d say most would agree. Yes, its harsh… but the truth hurts.

Good Luck on picking which is the right sorority for you. I’m glad we have girls interested in going Greek!

there are latina sororities too! #just saying

@UCRStudent5: Damn, I was really trying to get away from posting stuff like this. It just screws with the future members’ minds.

With that being said, I agree with your list for the most part. Added some stuff for Pi Phi and DG.

KKG/GPHI: Pretty much agree.

AXO: Agreed.

Pi Phi: IMO, only sorority without a “type” which I think is cool. Surprisingly, Pi Phi has done a lot more the past year. They’ve actually participated in stuff/had events but no one knows what they do. They give the sketchiest/most cryptic answers, especially the newer girls. Because of this people think they haze.

DG: Definitely agree about their rules/restrictions. A lot of good looking girls but so damn boring when it comes to anything except philanthropy. It’s not a bad thing but they’ll kill anyone in their way to raise the most money or win an event. Really competitive girls.

SK: Agreed. Nice girls but they’ve been stuck for the past few years. They have a lot of trouble recruiting girls, which is really damaging for them. As bad and dickish I feel for saying this, I think they’ll have the same fate as Kappa Alpha Theta.

But, still remember that it matters most how you feel about your fraternity/sorority. Don’t just join one because of what the internet people say.

THANKS guys!! I totally look foward to going Greek and thanks for the “Frat” insight :)
