Sorry...but this "chance" thing is very addicting lol

I know I'm likely to be rejected from W&M as an OOS with my stats....

But maybe someone else on here had similar stats and was accepted? I don't know...

My GPA is good, I am ranked in the top 5% of my grade (which is a private college-prep school, I believe 2 kids last year went to W&M, but they both applied ED)

I know my SATs kind of kill me: 670 reading, 680 math, 740 writing

Forgetting all the other stuff like essays, EC's, etc. (I believe they are all very good and fine)

Do I have a chance of getting into W&M?

(As for those two kids, I saw their stats in a college book our guidance counselors put together to show who applied where and if they were accepted/denied, obv they don't put names...one of them had a significantly lower GPA (around an 89ish) but SATs were about a 1420ish, other kid had about the same GPA, maybe a point or two lower than mine, and SATs were a 1370) And, of course they both applied ED so they got a boost there, and I don't know anything about their activities or if legacy played a roll, so maybe I can't judge myself based off of them)

What is a "good" GPA?

I think the stats you share from the two students who were accepted from your school are interesting because they are not quite perfect or up to pedsox's world view.

I believe that a GPA has to be put into context. Does your school have Naviance? It is a database of your school's application and acceptance history.

I would suggest taking the ACT. That reading score may go up a lot on ACT.

And, like everyone else here says, work on your essay with a good supplement.

And never say never.

inchoative- it's a 4.0 ...this year im taking all AP classes

Oh, just to clarify this, cause I don't think I mentioned it...more people than 2 got into William and Mary last year...I think I just had in mind the ones who are actually going...We had some others accepted, but one of them is on a completely different level and goes to Harvard now

With a 4.0, your SATs are low-ish but won't disqualify you. It'll come down to other factors such as ECs, recommendations, and essays. Being from Jersey will not help.

Actually, inchaotive, being from Jersey would help somebody get into WM because they give priority to kids from VA or that region (from the college board profile of WM).

What? No. Because there are more OOS applicants from the Jersey area, that makes it more difficult.
