Im considering applying here and I was wondering what kind of chance I had. I've taken 9 AP classes (Euro, American, Lang/Comp, Psych, Physics B, Calc AB, LIt/Comp, US Gov/Pol). My GPA is a 90% out of 100% but there has been an upward trend in my grades since freshman year, at the end of junior year I had a 96% avg. I have a 1280 on the SAT, 650 CR, 630 Math. I have great EC's ranging from guitar to trai work over the summer in New Hampshire. I've written really good essays that I believe are actually the best part of my application. I hada good interview. I'm from out of state, but both my parents went there so i'm an alum.

Sounds like you have some really great qualities. Your course work sounds very rigorous, your grades appear to be high (I’m guessing that 96 means you have mostly As) and you have legacy status and W&M certainly appreciates the lifelong connections of our alumni. Legacy status is certainly a plus factor. Remember too, if you take the SAT multiple times, we’ll combine your best individual components from different dates into your best possible score.

We tell any applicant that it’s hard to guage anyone’s chances because we do such a thorough and holistic review that includes objective and subjective qualities both of which matter a great deal so everyone has a chance of being admitted because there are no minimal critera you have to meet. On the flip side, every applicant must realize that we admit only 32% of those who apply (and slighly less of those out-of-state applicants) so make sure you have reasonable expectations. If you get in, fabulous. If you don’t, it’s no reflection on you but rather a reflection on the incredible strength of our pool.

It doesn’t hurt you to apply. It only costs you $60. (because hopefully you’re filling out the Common App for multiple schools) and you’ll never if you could have been admitted until you try.

Good luck!

Is there any option to beg the admissions office?
I really want to go here and would have definitely applied ED, but my family is unsure about FA so I’ll be applying RD. I’m OOS :(

No worries YuppitTales. We understand that some students have sound reasons for choosing to apply regular decision. While we don’t encourage begging, we certainly encourage you to utilize all of the application components that allow for your input (essay, extracurriculars, optional components) to express yourself and what you would add to the admission committee.
