Sorry for Another Should I Retake a 790...

...but this might be slightly different. So basically I too the Math IIC in 9th grade with no preparation.(kind of cocky I know) I didn't know any Precalc stuff like vectors and limits and polar coordinates and trig. I figured I could use my calculator for that most of that stuff. Took a the CB practice tests and got a 800. So I figured I would be fine. But when I took the actual test it turned out that it had a lot more PreCalc than I expected. So I ended up with a 790. So now, after haven taken PreCalc do you think it would be worth my time to retake?

Yes, and then keep retaking until you get an 800.

It won't make you look like a snob.

You should take it three more times, that way, you're guaranteed to woo the adcoms!

...no, don't bother with a retake.

The report that gets sent to colleges indicates the grade in which you took the exam. Don't worry about a 790. I am assuming you have taken more advanced math since 9th grade, said grades for which will count more than a 790, in terms of the big picture.

Look, the point is: if you want to retake, retake. Just don't go making 87% of the test takers feel stupid by saying, "DURRR I TOOK IT IN 9th GRADE AND I ONLY GOT 790...RETAKE!?!"

Just take what you want; you KNOW our opinion isn't going to influence you. You just want reassurance, and that's fine, but don't pretend to actually care about what we have to say about this :P

I certianly think triple 800's on the Math Level II would be impressive! You should take it like five more times, and then maybe Collegeboard will contact you and you'll get a diploma you can mail the colleges :) The officers would love you and say "Yeah, this guy is truly excellent, he improved 10 pts over 3 years".

Honestly, don't you have more advanced math to show off than the Math Level II you took in 9th grade?

If I were you I would retake it until I get perfect (800 is not enough need raw score of 50). Cuz I took it when I was in 6th grade (maybe 5th not sure too long ago) and scored an 800 but I missed 2 questions so I retook anyways in 7th grade and got perfect.

Oh, man, voodoo_santa, I know what you mean, man. My first 800 was -1, but I redid it 5 times and made sure I got them all right to be absolutely positive of my skillz.

you two are winners ^

Thank you for all of your wonderful advice :)

Kernbons,voodoo_santa, and Arachnotron for your lovely advice. I will definitely consider those options. I think my raw was -7 so I have a lot of improving to do :( (7 times should do the trick hopefully?)

And CountingDown, thanks for the only serious answer, that's kind of what I thought but just wanted to confirm it.

By the way, by no means was this thread meant to offend anyone, my school's full of math geniuses who think it's a sin to get anything lower than a 800...someone actually told me that "only stupid people get 790's" so yeah, my motivation for making this thread. Sorry, this was actually a semi-serious thread.

It seems that this thread served its purpose.
Let's close it.
