What is the best way to play the recorded accompaniments at Unifieds Chicago? We'll be flying from the west coast so packing space is an issue. If we're going to use an iPod to do that, then does anyone know which kind of docking station has the best sound quality, etc.??? Thanks for the help!

We did some auditions where recorded accompaniment was needed and used the iFrogz Near Field Portable Speaker. I got it at a local Apple store, but you can find it on Amazon for cheaper. I know many people were using more expensive speakers, but thought this was very reasonable, and worked very well. No cords to worry about, just battery and your iPhone or iPod. Portable and easy to travel with - we had to fly as well.

We are flying too. I bought my son a JBL flip from Best Buy. It was around $100. It has excellent sound, is portable, plugs in but also has a rechargeable battery, and you can just plug in your IPod. I think it will be a good system. He used a larger docking station at a recent regional audition. It worked fine too but this little powerhouse speaker is really good.

Thanks to both of you for the great suggestions! We will check them out this week…

My daughter used a JBL portable speaker 2 years ago that worked wonderfully. The current version is the JBL OnTour Micro 3.5mm Aux Portable Speaker that is available on Amazon for just under $50.00. You don’t need to spend mucho money to get enough sound, particularly as many of the rooms at Chicago Unifieds are fairly small!

We got both of my D’s Bose sound docks for Xmas. They will both enjoy them in college and my DH is a snob when it comes to music :). It’s a nice speaker that can pack a punch and moderately priced at $225.
