South Campus vs. Burton-Judson

I enrolled 4/25 and my first choice was Max P (relatively private bathrooms, I like the architecture, close to the gym + rest of campus, apparently well sound-proofed). My chances at getting that don't seem high, though, so I'm debating the order of my next two dorm choices.

I'm generally a quiet (but not unfriendly) person who prefers small get-togethers of friends to parties. This is something that would, as far as I can tell, put me in BJ territory.

On the other hand, I'm more fond of modern architecture and natural light, and new facilities, which puts me in South Campus territory.

I'm also kind of unenthusiastic about BJ dorms (I'm going by this: https://blogs.uchicago.edu/collegeadmissions/2009/02/dorm_of_the_day_burtonjudson.html) and the South Campus ones seem nicer (and this is the only picture I have of them: http://www.uchicago.edu/i/features/main/20090928_south_dorm11.jpg).

Comments, anyone? I'm especially interested in anyone who lived in South Campus, since I can't find much info about it. True that it's a loud, party-heavy place?

Thanks!

When I visited, I was amazed at how tame South Campus was, given that it had such a reputation.

I walked through several levels and houses. I saw only one suite party that whole time.

However, there were small groups of people in the lounges, watching movies. playing risk, playing video games, etc.

Even though I’m not much of a party person, I have seen fat more wild things and was slightly disappointed. It was rather lame/tame for a Saturday night

The kids I stayed with at South actually described it as more of a mix. A little of everything.

I stayed on a Monday night–there were people studying, people smoking weed, and people partying, although I’m told that last one was an attempt to impress us prospies, and that no one actually parties on a Monday. And of course, yes, South dorms are very nice.

Does Max P really fill up that quickly? I submitted my housing application 4/23 (I’m an EA admit, not sure if that matters) with Max P as my first choice, so I’m curious what my chances are.
