Southeastern MT schools

Hi there. I am new to this forum and came upon it quite accidentally, actually, but am thrilled to find a group of people who have been through a lot of what I'm about to experience. My dd is a junior and we are starting to look at schools (hope to do some visits this summer). She'd like to go to school in the southeast (because of weather!!!) and I was wondering if anybody had any good advice about MT schools there (particularly Florida. I know FSU is good, but I've been hearing some good things about Miami and UCF).

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum. If you haven't already done so, go to the FAQ section (see top of this board). There you will find the "big list" of MT schools, state by state. A lot has been written in various spots about FSU and Miami, so look through the old stuff and then I am sure people most familiar with those schools wil be glad to share info.

Thanks for your help. I started to read some of the stuff, but this forum is certainly intimidating with the number of responses!!!! Thanks again. :)

Welcome MegsMom. Yes, there are TONS of threads and posts here to weed through but it is quite the resource. Two suggestions....one is to liken it to reading a book (but better!) about colleges for musical theater (with autobiographies mixed in) and start at the beginning, Part One, and read a chapter a night. You will learn SO much.

Second, a short thing you can do now is to use the search function and research the MT schools in the southeast by name and only read posts/threads that deal with those.

Hope to see you more here!

Be sure to visit the musical theater thread on Elon University in North Carolina, which I think is considered Southeast - you'll find great info. there! It is definitely worth checking out.

I've been reading and reading and searched the schools. There seems to be a lot about FSU and some Miami. Does anybody have any comments about Central Florida? I hear they are supposed to have a pretty decent program, but it's fairly new.

Thanks.

MegsMom60 - I just posted a little bit about UCF on Happy College Acceptances thread (although I guess it would have been better posted here!)

Both Catawba College and Eastern Carolina University have MT Programs. Western Carolina University has a brand new BFA program in musical theater as well. Catawba is pretty well-established and has a good regional reputation. ECU and WCU are definitely up and coming and gaining momentum.
