So in high school I took AP Spanish, got a 5 and should've passed out of Spanish 1-6. However, on my DPR it says I still need to meet the foreign language requirement (even though they have a record of my AP test on the same DPR). Also, I checked on URSA and it allows me to enroll in Spanish 1 but says I don't meet the prerequisites for an advanced Spanish class that I should theoretically be able to enroll in based off my score.

I've been thinking, and I might use this to my advantage by taking Spanish 1-3 and getting a VERY easy A in 12 units which would be very helpful for my GPA. Will this backfire on me at all when I apply for med school (i.e. will my AP test show up on my transcript and raise questions)?

Also, is it possible to be kicked out of Spanish 1 if I'm too proficient? Because obviously I'm going to enter the class knowing much more than basic phrases.

no shame in it.

i took French when i was already fluent in Chinese. biggest regret of my life. it sank my GPA by a ton and gave me a lot of stress.

Don’t worry; the med adcoms will not see what AP scores you got. In fact, MOST med schools discourage the use of using AP credits because they see it as an “easy way out of taking classes” or maybe a “they got a good score on a fluke”. Taking the class in college and doing well in it confirms to them that you either worked hard or definitely know your stuff.

Either way, you will not get kicked out of Spanish 1 just because of proficiency. You may get death glares from your peers but that’s it. Good luck with your pre-med track!

I agree with the above poster. I’m currently taking Chinese in high school when I am already proficient in Spanish. This “elective” is stressing me the f. out. Too much studying that could be spent on my proposed major, econ. I’m actually studying for a test we have tomorrow. I’ll try to peruse the language outside of school, where I will enjoy it more and where it will not hurt my GPA.
