According to the student who called me, I have to fulfill a foreign language requirement. Since I took Spanish in high school, I figured that I would stick with that. However, the only professor that seems to be teaching beginning/intermediate spanish is Prof. Powell. She has HORRENDOUS reviews on BruinWalk. Has anyone ever had her class and is she as bad as the reviewers make her out to be? Cuz they are pretty frightening...

powell doesnt actually teach those classes (or at least most of them) - they are taught by TAs but she's listed b/c she is head of spanish dept.

is spanish easy at UCLA? if i wanted to take it for fun (took spanish in high school), would it be a gpa booster?

Thanks for the clarification, namaste!

Besides Spanish, which other languages are available?

There are many languages available. And yes, I just got done with Spn 2 and 3 this past year and as far as I know Powell is the library. Its taught by TAs and since they make the quizzes and grade your department-made midterm and final, difficulty largely depends on the TA you get. Classes are taught in all spanish, so it may be intimidating for some. I had good TAs (preety easy too), Johana Davilla and Laura Lee.
