Has anyone taken Penn's Spanish placement test? How difficult is it?

Also, not that I would be dumb enough to do this, but isn't it kind of easy to cheat on, considering there's not even a time limit?

Thanks,

Haha, I took it a few years ago, but I doubt it has changed…

It is adaptive, so if you get a question right it gets harder, and if you get a question wrong it gets easier. It is multiple choice, so you have a one in four chance of guessing right. I found the test to be fair, in that questions got progressively harder until I was over my head, and then they got a bit easier.

Yeah, cheating is definitely a possibility. But so if you score high enough, then you take a written test at Penn. If you do well enough on that, then there is an oral exam. So it’s easy to cheat and place into Spanish 140, but basically impossible to cheat and place out of the language requirement entirely. I guess they assume there is no incentive to cheat your way into 140 if you will be over your head and get crushed.

Good luck! The Spanish department is really awesome and it is fun to have a class that is capped at 18 people (my freshman year, the other classes I took were all large lectures with 80+ people).
