Spanish Placement Test & SAT II

I got a score of 610 on the SAT II subject test for Spanish, so I automatically place into SPAN 2020. What happens if I take the placement test (in the hopes testing out of the language requirement) and I get a score that places me lower than the SAT does? Would UVA count the highest score, or the one taken last? I was close to testing out of the language requirement, so it would be great if I can score high enough on the placement exam to do so, but I don't want to risk it if I can potentially get bumped down from where my SAT score placed me.

I need a 536 or higher to test out of Spanish. How hard is it to score that high? I took three years of Spanish in high school, and one year at community college, but it's been a year since I've taken any Spanish, so I'm a bit rusty.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I took the Spanish placement test a number of years ago–2001, I believe–and I don’t know whether it has changed since then, so take my advice with a grain of salt. My Spanish was self-taught from tapes and I felt that I was getting to the point where I needed a live instructor, but I had no idea where I might place. I bought an AP test review book to prepare and scored a 596. If the test is still the same deal, it’s quite short (only 20 minutes or so) and there is no oral/aural component. I was expecting something much more extensive, similar to the French subject test I took way back in the day when I was applying to college, so I was pleasantly surprised.
