specific dorm characteristics? (rose hill)

well i am almost 100% sure that i am going to fordham and i want to reside in a dorm that fits me. i was invited to a program at another university, which i attended, and the program paired me with a current student who i could ask all the questions i could think of. one of the big things he taught me about that university was the difference between each dorm, like one was the "party dorm", one was a lot more chill and far from everything, the ups and downs of each ones location (close to this food place or close to the business buildings etc.), which building has been renovated and which ones are in need of it, coed, a/c, strictness on rules, social lounges, tv's, kitchens, pool tables etc. any comments on these for the rose hill freshman dorms?

hey bufu,

the freshman dorms at Fordham Rose Hill are very, very different.

A rundown:

Hughes Hall — the party dorm. Every room is a quad and also huge. Very notorious and also kind of disgusting. It's a lot of fun, though; will probably be shut down to become classrooms within the next few years.

Alumni North/Alumni South — these are two different buildings, but they're pretty much the same. Less partying than Hughes. However, people get written up there all the time. Kind of bland. Also: South has the SILC program.

Queens Court — basically, it's wellness housing; it has really, really nice rooms and facilities. The RAs are pretty strict in theory on drinking, but it's kind of a catch-22: because they suspect no one of drinking, they aren't very harsh. NO ONE gets written up. There are straight-edge people, and they're cool. One of the smallest dorms on campus- about 150 people.

Tierney Hall — it's a nice dorm, previously an office building. Nice hallways, but the rooms are kind of small. Air conditioned. Downside: all the way across campus from all the other freshman dorms.

i can tell that fordham is very serious about academics and from what i heard, the dorms are okayy..i went there yesterdayy and the buildings look very beautiful from the outside with gothic archticture..but inside it looked very oldd and ancient (built in 1841)...but im not complaiining the campus itself at rosehill in my opinion is beautifullll, i loved everything about it , & its not like its stuck in the suburbs, i mean its realli convinent where it is located, the dorms are stationed by nearby shops and markets...itss soo nicee <3

thanks for the info guys. just curious monorail, is getting written up a serious deal? im assuming it means getting in trouble for drinking and other frowned upon activities

I like Queens court, but just wondering, when you say strict, how strict are they exactly? I guess it's not really much of a party house but I'm looking for a more chill place

i'm very interested in Bishop's Hall...can anyone provide any info on it?

You definitely can get written up in Queens Court for alcohol possession or suspected intoxication.

Any pictures?

I heard freshman are not guaranteed housing. Is this true?

If freshman are not guaranteed housing - as ojin implies - does it matter which dorm I prefer? Does my preference guarantee that particular dorm?

-doubts it-

i can't imagine that housing isn't guaranteed

i have a friend in queens court right now who absolutely ADORES it. he says its a very chill place with a great sense of community. you have to write a letter promising not to drink to get in and then once youre in there are priests or sisters on every floor (he has a sister living two doors down...) so kids are pretty good about not drinking.
he also said that it's primarily theatre kids? is that true?

Freshmen who enter with housing are guaranteed housing for their entire four years

If you are given housing its guaranteed. Some locals are not offered admission with housing but that is better than being rejected or waitlisted.

As for Queens...the story is that the RA"s vary from year to year and thus the level of strictness waxes and wanes accordingly. Supposedly its a wellness community but from anecdotal reports some kids dont take the pledge very seriously. Its like all dorms....often fairly noisy and busy until the wee hours. Yes, its old, but its got some character to it. My view is that if you take a pledge you should keep it. If you cant take the no drinking pledge dont request Queens. Its not all theatre kids either....some are theatre and some are musicians and a LOT of them are even CBA kids. Generally they are mostly all academically oriented with lots of Honors kids as well.

There is a dorm for everyone ...meaning all types of personalities. But even so, its unique in that only freshmen live in these dorms. Upper classmen have separate dorm buildings all together. So you have 150 or more wild freshmen living in a building. You do the "math" so to speak.

All colleges have wild dorm life.

any more comments about each dorm?

bump - I got the housing form today.
Anymore suggestions/descriptions about freshman dorms

??????????????????????

oh and supposedly queen's court is haunted :D
