...are annoying. who is in agreement with me?

What?! We dominate.

You’re trying to start a debate right now OP
Nice going.

Sometimes annoying, if they’e clueless about what they’re talking about. But considering that my school has like the 12th largest NFL debate (and speech?)team in the nation they’re a decent group.

they think theyre so cool yet they all get into crappy colleges

This is seriously the 12th thread mr. Jones has started and I’ve been in

well… I do like debating. People who debate have to have respect at all times though

when someone gives out a speech and just offends and insults, blames, etc other people

thats just lame

What’s funny is that most of them think that Speech & Debate are the only ECs that are going to get them into a good college.

I thought all the speech and debaters were really weird…until I joined this year (my junior year). It really is a lot of fun (I did policy debate). Ok well some of the speech people are kinda weird…haha. Like when they practice their pieces to a wall. But its all good.

They do, and it’s quite funny when I get in a better school than those pretentious whores (most of them at least).

I liked debate.
But it’s not that big of a program at my school. It was extremely fun though. I loved going to tournaments. The Speech people are kinda weird and some of the debaters were really uptight…haha. They took everything so seriously we didn’t dare to joke around them. But it was a great experience. My speaking skills improved drastically! It was fun…I miss it. But it was a pretty boring class, I just liked tournaments haha

Wow, I’m surprised at the animosity towards debate here. I don’t think it’s very fair to say that most debaters are “pretentious whores” who “think that Speech & Debate are the only ECs that are going to get them into a good college.”
The debaters at my school are definitely not like that…

stop making biased judgements. who cares. the only advantage that debate could offer me is improve my speech and talking skills…and make me sound like a lil *****.
funny how most debaters end up going to crappy colleges and UC’s while the people like me who just laugh at them in pity and disgust end up at Ivy Leagues.
and its also funny how the only debaters who end up at such top-tier schools are the ones who barely even go to practice and spend their time on more worthwhile things.

I’m not a speech or debater myself, but I want to join Debate next year. I’m definitely not joining it to get into a top college, but because I think it would be fun and teach me a lot of important skills. Being a good speaker is important for college, for many careers, and just day-to-day life. I don’t see why it is bad to participate in Debate.

Tom, are you serious?

we’re not whores

I do speech and debate…
and because of that, i’ve been offered BIG scholarship money if i would debate for a team in college… good schools too…like…idk. Northwestern maybe?
so to say that it doesn’t help is a lie
and not just that, but most of us are very involved in other things…

so OP, you need to get yourself educated

LOLololololOLOlolOLOlol bsbsbsbsbsbsbs

Forensics teaches you perhaps the most important skill-communication
If that is bs, i wouldn’t want to know what you consider to be legitimate

wow…i see you clearly don’t need the critical thinking skills that one acquires through debate.
top-notch arguments. congrats. that will get you far in life, just say “lolololol…bsbsbsbs” to everything you don’t agree with.

^Agreed. I do admit I never took debate very seriously because it was a pretty blow off class at my school and my partner and i would just cram a practice/research session the night before tournaments becuase we never did anything in class.
But some of the people we debated were amazing.
They didn’t win because they had more evidence against us but because they were SO analytical and made great arguments based on logic alone. It really does take a LOT of critical thinking if you want to be good. And you have to think on your feet too…you really don’t have that much time to prepared for a whole speech so it’s a lot of improvisation involved too.
