Spelman vs Wellesley

In college I want to double-major in Biology and Computer Science. Spelman is known for having one of the most black females applying to med school, but Wellesley is also great. Which is better for what I want to major in?

You do not have to major in biology to do pre-med; you can take the pre-med courses alongside any major.

Take a look at the course catalogs and major requirements at each school for your major; look especially at what junior and senior level course offerings are available, and whether they match your interests within the major. You can do this at your state flagship university to get an idea of what can be offered in each subject; smaller colleges typically have fewer offerings, so you want to see whether the offerings that they do have are the ones you are most interested in.

You would benefit from reformulating your question and heading over to one of the pre-med forums on CC. Schools that tout the number of med school acceptances (more important than number applying,) can tend to weed out all but the very strongest students. It can be brutal. You would beneft from a solid program that is cooperative rather than competitive, in this respect. See what you can learn about that, for any colleges you are considering.

Wellesley is definitely better academically (and in reputation), but they’re so different it’s very hard to compare.

PS: Wellesley bio is phenomenal.

Visit both if you can. Apply to both. Next April if both admit you and both packages work, then you can decide.

But meanwhile if you like the women’s colleges, take a look at the others, and spend some time in the Womens Colleges sub-forum.
