In college I want to double-major in Biology and Computer Science. Spelman is known for having one of the most black females applying and going to med school, but Wellesley is really great. I really need some advice. Thanks :)

Hello, anyone?

I think Spelman is the bomb, and went to an HBCU and HBCU medical school, but you should still as yourself WHY Spellman has the most black females going to medical school. If the answers work for you, that might help with your decision.

If you DO end up in medical school, it might have been nice to follow the money.

Both schools are great, and it sounds like you’ve done some research on Spelman’s medical school acceptance rate. I’m currently a student at Wellesley, so I can only speak to my experience there. I know that our medical school acceptance rate is around 70%, while the national average for other schools is 45%. There’s an adviser at Wellesley specifically for pre-med students, which is also helpful during the application process.

If I were you, I’d try to visit both schools and see which one feels like a better fit. Both Wellesley and Spelman would provide you with a great undergraduate experience, so you can’t really go wrong. :)

Feel free to PM me with any further questions about Wellesley!

Thanks for your replies. When I become a Junior or Senior in high school, I will visit both and see which campus makes me feel at home. I’m still a freshmen in high school, but want to do early research and I take the hardest classes except for math. I also HAVE to study abroad to Japan. Thanks :)

Oh my goodness! I didn’t know you’re a freshman–you’re really starting the college search early! Make sure you enjoy these next four years in high school: take interesting classes, join clubs, etc. Your passion will shine through on your application to whatever schools interest you.

Thank you very much :)
