<p>My current school now offers an exchange program to Spence School in the US.
It was about time, since we had exchanges to Argetina, Japan, England, Scotland and Germany (plus a few more I can't remember).
So how is Spence, what is the reputation the school has in the US?
All I know is that they filmed a bit of the TV show Gossip Girl there and is located in Manhattan, NYC.</p>

they also have a huge endowment (for a day school, it’s in the 90 millions).
academically, it’s fantastic, on par with chapin and probably with brearley… their college matriculation is amazing and… words can’t describe.</p>
<p>haha i’ll stop being a little spence cheerleader now 
but yeah, it’s filmed using the spence exterior but gossip girl is nothing like spence. spence is academically rigorous, and i highly doubt you’d have enough extra time to pursue such… um, unique… after-school activities like those of the characters in Gossip Girl (addictive series, though!).</p>
<p>if you get to go there, i am sooo jealous. 
ps: i’m probably a bit (haha) biased, so… i have a friend that goes to spence, and she adores it, and her love is infectious! if anyone else has firsthand information, please share.</p>
<p>idk about spence being on par with brearley but nonetheless it is a very good school</p>
<p>I have a cousin that goes to Spence… Her homework is comparable to mine in English(She is a year younger too) but sometimes I really wonder if they are a well rounded school… Her math homework as a sophomore is similar to what I was doing freshman year at a large magnet school… If English and writing is your thing do it, but if you like hard sciences maybe another school?</p>
<p>I know a few people who go there, the place rocks, the faculty is great. Can’t beat the location - just off 5th ave, by central park, beautiful place.
Hcos is right, brearley does go deeper into certain academic areas, but don’t let that stop you.</p>
<p>spence is one of the top three all girls schools in the US
no they did not film the exterior for gossip girl there (they did 3 blocks away though)
US education is behind English education during high school years (catches up in college) so your maths/sciences may be not as advanced as in your home school
if you want an experience of a year in the US you cant beat it</p>

<p>Anyway thanks for all your opinions everyone. There’s a huge group of people at my school that want to go on the exchange. I do think the location sounds amazing, I’m kind of attracted by elite schools in the US though (probably because I am kind of clueless about them).</p>
<p>I have a friend that goes to Spence and shes a class president/representative (i forget)…I believe she is a sophmore and she absolutely loves it!</p>
