Spend a Day in Our Shoes April 12-13

Just for planning purposes, if you are admitted I think you will be invited to the "Spend a Day in Our Shoes" event at Scripps with an overnight on April 12th. I think the program is basically a lot like Preview Day was last Nov but it is just for admitted students.

<a href="http://www.scrippscollege.edu/dept/admission/sadios.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.scrippscollege.edu/dept/admission/sadios.html</a></p>

Maybe some current students can comment on this event if they went in previous years.

The information is now up online.

<a href="http://www.scrippscollege.edu/dept/admission/sadios.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.scrippscollege.edu/dept/admission/sadios.html</a></p>

And I second traveleurope's question: did someone attend last year? Would anyone like to comment?

I was there last year! It was really fun...I really got to see what college is like, because you go off with the person hosting you and they take you wherever they want to go. You also get to spend the night. There is stuff for the parents to do too. I recommend it, if you can go.

Who's attending, and who's staying overnight?

I'll probably stay on Thursday and attend all three days (Saturday is for "Women of Color").

I'm coming up on Thursday and spending the night.

As someone who usually helps out somehow or another with these events, if only in small ways, I'm very sad I might not be around campus for it this year (gone checking out a grad school). It really is a great time to be around campus. I know some people who met their freshman year roommates at SADIOS. The rose garden is finally pretty again, the wisteria miiiight still be blooming, midterms are basically out of the way, still a few weeks before finals...there IS the madness of "last weekend before thesis is due," but you can't win on all fronts. It should be a great time to visit.

Good luck to everyone headin' down...hope you enjoy yourselves, and congrats on your acceptances :-)

Where do the prospective students sleep during the SADIOS event?

I was actually wondering this myself recently. You'll either be with current students or in a nearby (15-ish min. walk...I think it's the Doubletree formerly known as the Claremont Inn) hotel. As much as the former would be nice, my guess is that it will be the latter. With Scripps being as small as it is, having too much prospies spend the night at one time just isn't really feasible. But again, I'm only guessing...call admissions and they'll be able to tell you :)

The prospective students can stay overnight at scripps if they want. They will be paired with a current student and will get to sleep in their dorm.

^ If staying on campus actually is a possibility, then I can't recommend it highly enough. I never did so, so I just got lucky in ending up at a place that fit me as well as Scripps does. Really, truly, no matter how shy you are or how strange you think you look in the morning, do it, do it, do it :)

If you will be in the Claremont area Friday or Saturday night, consider treating yourself to Scripps Dances at the Garrison Theater on the Scripps campus. Scripps student dancers (and others?) will be performing pieces choreographed by Scripps, CMC, and Harvey Mudd students. The performances start at 8:00 p.m., with doors open at 7:30 p.m. There is a modest admission fee. I may not be totally objective (my daughter is performing) but it should be wonderful!

^ Dance concert: $10 general admission, $5 students/faculty/staff/seniors. The concert will include Scripps senior dance majors' thesis pieces and the dancers will be from all 5Cs (and sometimes include limited faculty/alum, but I don't know about this particular concert). Note that the Claremont dance program is pretty heavily (thought definitely not entirely) modern-based, which can be odd to get used to if you haven't seen much modern dance before (although after four years of living with a dance major, I can honestly say that it grows on you).

norskmom -- My roommate is a choreographer...I'll be there Saturday night! Good luck to your daughter, and enjoy the show :)

Another event that I highly recommend is WaBaCa on Thursday night. It's a show being put on by the Criminal Justice Network, Worker's Solidarity Coalition, and Peace & Justice...group (so many clubs and organizations to keep straight, but you get the idea). The event will include very brief presentations by each group and all proceeds will go towards related organizations. The show itself gets its name from "Without a Box" and "A Cappella," and will have the 5C comedy improv troupe and three-ish (last I heard) of the six 5C a cappella groups performing. A group called "Challah for Hunger" (started by a current Scripps senior, recently featured on NPR) will be selling challah french toast (AMAZING) after the show. Tickets are $5 at the door (Humanities Auditorium...middle of Scripps campus), doors open at 7:45pm (I recommend getting there early), show goes from 8-10. Specially scheduled over SADIOS for your convenience :D

Student615 mentioned "Challah for Hunger" in her above post.

They will also be selling Challah bread outside the Motley Coffeehouse during lunch time (11:15-1:30) on Friday. We bought some when we were on campus for Preview Day last year and it was great.

Here is their web site if you want to find out more about the org.
