I was wondering how much money everyone spends in a week and on what, exactly? Get detailed...

I'd say around 75-100 per week is a low average

$70 for fuel.
$30 for groceries.
$20 for food at work.
$10 for personal upkeep.

So thats about $130, not counting bills & such.

AHeartLikeHis, it is impossible for you to make it an entire year on 1300 dollars.. you have to work stop being lazy

I live on campus and I am on a full meal plan. Without those two major expenses, I don't spend more than $20 a week, plus books at the beginning of the semester. On the other hand, I pretty much never leave the campus.

It is totally possible to make it on $1300 a year if you don't have to buy food etc.

No...the 1300 is for fall semester (im thinking 16-18 weeks total including holidays) at 18 weeks that will give me $70 a week which i cannot even picture spending....what would i spend that on?

With my meal plan i get to eat at quiznos, the loop, mexican place, bagel place, coffee shop, chick fil a, once a week...besides the unlimited dining hall meals...

i can see $20 a month for toiletries if my mom doesnt pay for that....

I am using the shuttle system for when i need to go to walmart...

It depends on the atmosphere you are living in. At UMiami even 4-5k is pretty low (living off campus). I guess if you never leave campus, go to the bars, hang out with friends you could get by on 20 a week. I think its better to get a little bit more money and not limit your social life.

Edit: If it's just for fall semester you could probably cut it at 70 a week if you live in a college town if you don't have to buy your own food.

What kind of social life do you expect to have? That will give us more of an estimation of what you will be spending. Tell us about yourself a bit, what school you are going to, the atmosphere.. different parts of the US have way different lifestyles.

The university is in south georgia... the town has 2 super walmarts, an amusement park... I have a yearly pass to the amusement park with includes entry, parking, go karts, and putt putt golf.

I am not a drinker nor do i party....never been to a bar or party, and do not plan on doing that EVER. I will be a part of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry...

I plan to go out to eat, catch a movie, go bowling, etc once a month...

You could get by like that on 70 a week easily... but do you really want to live like that? You aren't young very long and it just doesn't really seem like a great way to spend your life in your early 20's. If you spend most of your time on campus in your dorm and whatnot, ex. don't go to the coffee shop, limit going to the movies you could get by on under 30 bucks a week i'd say.

Does anyone know the record for most threads started in relation to total posts?

I just noticed AHeartLikeHis has 48 threads started and 89 posts. 54% of her posts are starting new threads.

Random, but since this is the 2nd question about spending.....just seems appropriate.

I'm a girl.... the "AHeartLikeHis" is after a book...about having a heart like God's

Depends on the week, but just counting dinners and clubbing about 500+ a week...NYC is expensive

oh you are a girl, no wonder you don't want to work full time.. I never see girls work full time. beyond that, you don't have to pay for anything on your own.. just find a guy lol. You have it made, never pay for dinners, movies, drinks etc..

It's expensive in New York.
groceries--$80 (and I eat like a bird)
dinners and lunches--$40-100 (I usually keep it closer to $50)
subway fares--$10 at least
drinks--$10
seeing a broadway show or going to a club--$20-30 rate
coffee--$20

On average, probably about $120 per week, when I'm careful...

dan-WOW. Guess you're a big spender

Just because I am a female does not mean I am an inadequate worker...I work just as hard as the guys (and the ones whom I have worked with...did not work at all, I had to pick up their lack of work ethic...)

500+ a week? Do your parents fund you or something?

Realistically i'm spending my summer working two jobs to:
-Pay the rest of my tuition that finaide didn't cover (1. because i don't want to have student loans to pay back and 2. because i'm from a single parent family) I only have to come up with just shy of 4,000 and there are still a couple of scholarships i might get later in the summer.

-Purchase a decent laptop.

-Purchase a better vehicle or fix any problems with my current one.

-Save up what i can to make it for the first semester. (Trips back home, Christmas stuff, money for concerts and fun)

Also, i look at what i'd like to do which costs money like:

-I was another tattoo.
-I have piercings and need jewelry for them cause you do lose them.
-Get my traggus' pierced.
-Go to concerts in Omaha while in school.
-Have money to go out.

These are all things i know i'll be spending money on, but you also have to take a look at the unexpected expenses like if your care breaks down, an emergency trip home, etc etc.

1300 aint going to cut it.

There are so many expenses that are possible, but most are ones that you can get by without. I spent a lot of money eating out and on books last semester, and this semester a lot of my funds have gone to pledging a fraternity. Next semester I hope to get by on $1200, but the previous two have cost me $1500-$1700 each.

It usually cost more for guys than girls. The old double standard kicks in when not going dutch!
