Well, right now i am volunteering at a pet shop, helping to 'socialize' animals. It's fun, but i also clean the cages of things i don't like. ie Snakes.

I also play games and read to the senior citizens at the home my mom works for. Other than that i do a lot of community coalition activities.

Oh i know hers was different. Sarcasm is difficult on forums. My point is that sometimes not working during your first year is a good thing. However, working your butt off over the summer to let you take the year off is better then having mommy and daddy pay for it all.

I have been trying to get that point across multiple times, but she still keeps posting the same thing over and over.

AJH2008, that sounds like really interesting volunteer work! I was just planning on volunteering at the local food bank and a hospital, but I think I may look into helping senior citizens because they can be so fun!

This is going slightly off-topic but in reply to wsuwarrior10 I would like to say that I think working during your first year is generally a good thing, at least it has been for me. It brought some structure into my schedule and helped me learn to budget my time. I will probably have a hard time working the same number of hours next year because my classes will be a lot more work...

^ I actually agree that working is good to an extent, but adjusting to college level courses is already hard enough for some people and throwing a job on top of that would be a disaster (I'm talking about working 20+ hours Monday-Friday). I think it would be important to get adjusted to a new town, new people, and college classes BEFORE getting a job.

Personally, I'm looking forward to going to college so I won't have to work, but I've also been working near full time (I have weekends off, but I still go in and clean for some extra $) from ages 13-18. I know that I can handle college and a job because I've been working near full time and taking all college classes and AP classes (I've exceeded the normal school work load too).

exactly. I was talking about working more than like one full day a week. I agree working in college is good, I just wanted to adjust to the new atmosphere of studying and social life before I started working and wasted that time to meet people and hit the ground running with classes.

Okay. I will be working too on campus because I can't survive without a job. No fall back for me ig supportive family.
Wsuwarrior, someone told me though campus jobs are great way to make friends so I don't think you are actually wasting time in making friends. See you will actually be meeting different students outside of class and your floor.

I'm worried about my school in the fall; right now I owe a bit of money and before I go I pretty much will spend 2-3k on paying loans, health bills, etc. So save your money or donate it to me! And I took 18 credits one summer, and those weren't easy classes, Calc 4, Bio1&2, Statics, and Statistics. I did decent in all of those though but that was my full time job and that's also why I'm in debt now ;)
