Spinoff: Colleges can look at your facebook?

Another recent post mentioned colleges looking at facebook profiles. But how can they do this with out "friending" you if you profile is set to private?

Would/could a college do this? It seem like they gain enough information about the student from their application. What does it matter what a student does outside of class as long as they show up, do the work, and make the grades?

Well thats kinda the whole point about interviews, ECs and essays…

That is all “school” related stuff, I meant outside of class meaning social life, partying, relationships, ect. The stuff they would gain from looking at one’s facebook profile.

Well, if your facebook is set to private, then they can’t at all. But some people, like me, leave certain positive info open so that they see some of my info, but not all.

I would just like to mention that my friend was facebook friended by her interviewer for Brown, and boy was she glad her facebook was clean!
