I had previously made a thread asking about how to list my EC because I had participated in it every school year since 9th grade. However, I have not participated in every summer but rather only two of the summers.

The Common App does not allow me to specify which summers. Is it alright for me to split the EC into two, one detailing hours and weeks during the school year and the other detailing the hours and weeks I participated during the summer?

Would Colleges be like "What is this kid doing?..."

I do significantly work more during the summer than the school year.
Another reason for me wanting to split it up is because if I do not split it up and I check off that I work during the summers, it would make it conflict with my ECs that I did during other summers. I don't want colleges to think I'm lying.

This is what I did:

Is that alright? I'm pretty sure I followed someone's advice in doing this, but I just wanted to get more opinions.

Also, if I check off 9th grade and summer/school break, is that the summer going into 9th grade?

That is exactly how I would do it. Colleges will know right away that you are only trying to be honest and make it easier to read for them, so they will appreciate it. I also split an EC because it has two parts and one involved much more work than the other.

If you click 9th grade, it is implied that it is the summer AFTER 9th grade. Keep in mind they are only asking for what you’ve done since HS started, so anything before that is irrelevant.

Best regards,

Alright, that’s good.

However, are you sure about the 9th grade being summer after 9th grade?

If that’s the case, then checking off 12th grade and summer would be post graduate would it not?

I just did a quick google search and I think it’s best to assume that something done in the summer after 10th grade, for example, should be listed as 11th grade summer.

Being consistent throughout is also important.

I say this because if they are not interested in what you did leading up to HS. They say to only list activities that started in 9th grade. So, they wouldn’t ask for summer before 9th but rather the summer after 9th. That’s what I think about it, at least!

Consistency is most important. They don’t care if you did it the summer of 9th or of 10th, really. It’s more or less about the evolvement you had with it.

Best regards,
