How difficult is this class? I have Victor Jordan and he says that it goes really fast. I haven't taken any Spanish in about four years so I am pretty rusty but they don't let you take the two introductory courses if you have any background.

I was also thinking about doing the pass/fail option if I feel it is too difficult but still want to take it. How does that look? Spanish is completely unrelated to my major (Computer Science) but I need it to meet the foreign language requirement (doing CLAS and not COE).

It is not very difficult but I had spanish from highschool the previous year. So I was not rusty. I had a very nice teacher as well so that may have helped a ton. She said it was going to be very fast paced but for me it was a breeze. I didnt even study for the final and ended up with an A. There were older students in my class who hadn’t taken Spanish in awhile and were somewhat struggling but many passed, albeit with C+/B. There is an oral presentation which you have to use basic Spanish vocabulary to describe geography, food, culture, a current event and other topics for like 3-5 minutes. They are 3(i think) conversations that you have to have with a partner and the teacher listens to you. So if you can’t really think of your feet in Spanish or not comfortable with your level of Spanish right now I would suggest speaking to the teacher about either the S/U Option or even asking if you can go down to SPN1130/1. I know that if you haven’t had a Spanish class in four years you can definitely be rusty, so I understand. Btw if you do want to risk it—the midterm is basic vocabulary and conjugated -ar,-er,-ir verbs in present form—the final covers direct/indirect, subjunctive, past/imperfect, por/para w/ vocab. So if you think you can do that then good luck!
