So I am in the CLAS so I need to complete the foreign language requirement. I know that SPN 1134, Accelerated Spanish, meets the requirement and is intended for students who have taken Spanish in high school.

I was wondering if anyone here could speak of the difficulty of the course? I have taken up to Spanish 4 in high school but the last time that I took Spanish was my sophomore year of high school so I only remember the very bare basics.

I’m currently taking SPN1134 right now! It’s basically 5 credits in which you meet three times a week and do most of the work online. I’m currently finding it pretty doable. In fact my highest grade right now is in that class. My professor is really nice though and I really like the way she teaches. I took up to Spanish 4 as well but I took it my senior year, so something’s are a little fresher for me but it’s basically Spanish 1 and 2 combined and not very difficult to refresh your memory. You do have 1 oral presentation but currently they are going pretty well. It may depend on your professor but I definitely dont think you’ll have difficulty in you took such a high level Spanish sophomore year. First half of the semester was on conjugating present tense verbs, vocab, listening comprehension(which is not bad at all compared to highschool!)and writing skills. The way it works out is most of the tests are online and literally there is way you get less than 100% on any of the online stuff because you have multiple tries for assignments and endless tries for the chapter tests. It’s not time consuming work either if you know what you are doing. There is a midterm and final thought that is in person. The midterm wasnt that difficult for me because it was like the wry basic of information, so you’ll do fine! The final is more on object pronouns, preterite, imperfect, etc however I know a friend of mine who doesn’t know Spanish at all took spanish 1 at UF but ending up switching out because the teacher spoke more spanish during the class than my teacher in accelerated Spanish. She takes it slow in my opinion but I prefer it and is genuinely interested in her students! Plus the work we do in class is always group work and we listen to hispanic music and que hora es videos. So it’s not a terrible class at All. Sorry for the long reply but I just like this class better than all the science and humanities courses I’m taking!
