Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can comment on the availability and quality of the sports (particularly basketball courts) and fitness facilities that may be around the campus? I went on one of the tours recently and visited one of the gyms that had an indoor track, as well as a bball court below, but Im wondering how often those are available, seeing that school teams probably have priority.

I also know that some of the Columbia housing options have their own fitness facilities, can people comment on those?

Thank you.

That’s the only fitness center that the campus offers - certain dorms have supplementary facilities but these normally amount to a couple of treadmills and maybe a rowing machine. The courts in the gym you saw, called University Gym or just “blue” gym, are available for basketball a few hours each day. From time to time they also put out volleyball nets, ping pong tables, etc. Basically, that’s a flexible space for all kinds of recreational sports and, of all the rec sports, b-ball is definitely the most popular.

Also, Levien Gymnasium, where the varsity basketball teams play, is available for pickup games almost every single day.

The fitness center has a pool, squash/racquetball courts, saunas, etc. Basically, they’ve got everything you could want in a gym without the ridiculous fees or pressure to be sold on a personal trainer.
