Sports at Boarding School

Hi guys.

I know that many of you wear glasses, just as I do. So I wonder how people play sports at BS? @MBVLoveless: don't tell me to take it off :D.

Some people get sports goggles. I had those before I got contacts.

I haven’t gone to boarding school, but I play varsity tennis at my local public school with my classes on. When I ran cross country/track, I still kept my glasses on. The only time I took them off was for “contact” sports. For basketball/soccer, I would replace them with like an indestructible pair of glasses that looked like a scuba diving mask.

I’m afraid that not many pairs of glasses are goodlooking. And does anyone think that contacts may harm our eyes? I dont know but I get that impression.

This is the best one I can find!

You should really really really see an eye doctor. Don’t buy glasses without consulting a doctor. They can tell you so much more and I’m sure they can find you a “good looking” pair.

Thanks for the idea! @PxAlaska. But I can’t see any sports glasses store around me!

My son wears “Rec Specs” (with prescription lenses) for sports. We got these sports glasses at the same time / place as his regular daily glasses.

I googled and came up with the same results. But I dont think Rec Specs are goodlooking

My son got sports goggles for indoor soccer at a regular eye glass store. It is the same rx as his regular glasses.

No, they aren’t very fetching. But neither is having eyes filled with shards of glass.

Are they prescripted glasses? Are they expensive?

Yes, they are prescription lenses. I don’t remember how much they cost. I don’t think they were as expensive as his daily glasses.

Wow. Thank you a lot. I think I’ll need them although the Skiiing Glasses look so much cooler haha. 1+ for MamaBug.

You can get some like this [Hilco / Wilson Product Results](http://www.hilco.com/catalog/catalog_browse.asp?ResultType=single&prodID=21978&IDType=internal&refpg=eyewear_sport_main.asp) or you can get something like this [Unique Over Specs Eyewear](<a href=“Unique Over Specs Eyewear | Racquetball Warehouse”>Unique Over Specs Eyewear | Racquetball Warehouse) which goes over your glasses (designed for raquetball). You can try a sports store for the over-glasses goggles if you like that look better.

Just wondering, would you consider getting contacts? I got my contacts for the same reason (sports), and they help a lot. (:

My kid also got contacts for sports, and wears them only for sports (glasses otherwise).

I stated in my previous post that I got a feeling contacts will harm your eyes. i and my sister have fought over this for a while. Also, since I’m wearing glasses for a while, I believe taking it off makes me look more stupid( I should make me more naive huh  )

but thank you all of you who tried to help! I appreciate it.

LOL, I read the OP and went, “At least you aren’t blind without your glassses!” I have a -10.00 perscription.

I haven’t considered contacts primarily because I don’t want to touch my eyeball. At all. Besides, I’ve gotten so used to having glasses on that I believe that I look weird without them. Vanity all the way!

However, in gym class, I wear these dorky pair of goggles that resemble the goggles you wear while doing a lab; they’re super bulky though.

Maybe that’s why I don’t play sports…:)

@GoldenRatio I felt the exact same way about my glasses before I decided to get contacts. I was like nah I’d look weird, but its been 3 years and I realized that since I’m so used to my contacts now I look weird in glasses. It’s an unfortunate back and forth struggle. I didn’t want to touch my eye either but after a few days and it a week it’s not bad. Contacts definitely aren’t for everyone but don’t count them out!

@confusedonhades: Good thing to know! Thanks; I’ll consider it.
