Athletic Clothes for Sports

As we started to pack for boarding school, we got to the department of athletics. My mother who attended Groton, tried to tell me that i only needed to bring two or three pairs of athletic shorts, because at Groton, before sports they went down to the "athletic window" and picked up clothes to wear for the day. These clothes said Groton on them or something and were provided by the school. And then after sports that day the athletes would hand back the sweaty clothes and get a new pair the next day? So she said that these clothes were supplied. Is this still true at boarding sschools. St. Paul's in peticular?

I'm wondering about Choate now as well. I think we get them when we go.

Hockeykid, if you're on a team you get a uniform which you wear on wed/sat, game days. Otherwise you wear your own athletic clothes. The nice thing is everyone gets a bag to put your stuff in after practice. You throw the bag in the gym laundry chute, and it is washed and in your locker by practice the next day.

Yeah I'm also wondering about Choate...

a mom who called me the other day to welcome us to mx said this is what happens there as well.

I'm going to pack a few extra of my old school shorts just in case.

Yeah, drnancie, we also got a call from a mom at Choate whose daughter is a senior just to see if we had any questions.

So does this mean you guys would suggest bringing three pairs of shorts since they get washed every day or ten?

Maybe somewhere in the middle? Three and ten is a big gap.

Yup, putting your athletic clothes on a pin (or in a bag) for overnight laundering is a common thread at board school.

I know with my D's school, it is anything they put on the pin (underarmor, do-rags, wrist bands, etc.) in addition to the uniform and socks.

I'd be surprised if all of these questions weren't covered in the Handbook for each school. In addition a letter should have been sent detailing what is and isn't the student's responsibility i.e football players bring their own cleats, outer pads; rowers bring their own spandex etc.

bump for protectivemom

Well the answer is…

Yes, they do your laundry every day after practice. You put it in a sack and throw it down the chute and it will be on your locker the next day.

Depends on the school

I know Loomis does something along these lines too.

Thats nice of them to wash it for you and everything… Im still bringing lots of athletic stuff though. Or I may just order things online for the basketball season and start off by bring soccer stuff.

I would hold off and maybe contact a coach to find out schools policy. Most schools make you wear the schools practice stuff so you would waste money and space bringing things you may not need. But I can assure you, you will be hanging out in sweats and stuff after class.
They call it a loop, you hang your dirty stuff on it and it gets washed and you then pick it up the next day before practice.

That’s good treatment …I’m not use to that kind of stuff. I have to wash my own dirt clothes after practice…

But still, what about when you’re practicing by yourself, or working out, or you just want to be comfortable at night or something. I somehow always have athletic stuff on so I won’t take a risk.

At NMH, they do supply some practice stuff. You can also buy extra team logo things which are offered at the start of the season. My son still brings plenty of his own stuff because he will often play pick-up or practice on his own.

HANDBOOK!?!?!?!?!? WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GET A HANDBOOK!?!?!?!?!?!?
Has this already happened, or could I get it later? Because I have not gotten anything resembling a handbook so far.

thats coolllll
does hotchkiss wash athletic clothes?
