Sports to Stanford

I am a sophomore in high school, yes, young indeed, but have had a few senior friends rejected from Stanford. Clearly they were qualified as one now goes to Cornell and the other to UPenn (he was valedictorian). I'm wondering if beyond the common "4.0 GPA and 2300 SATs," playing two varsity sports will help get into Stanford. I'm from PA btw.

Sports are like any other EC - good but they’re not a guarantee. Stanford cares about one thing above all: passion. So whatever the focus of your application happens to be, make sure you convey your passion for at least something. If your passion is sports, great, write about it. It won’t really matter how many sports you letter in though.
