My son, (a junior) is very driven to apply to Ivy League Schools and is taking the rigorous classes he was advised to, however, he is about a 4.3 GPA out of 4 and not at the top of his class. Not sure of his real chances, but he does very well on the math side as well as the english. sophomore PSAT was 200. Just took his junior year one, so don't know that one yet. He plays basketball but is interested in joining a rugby team. Our high schools do not have rugby teams as we are in a 250,000 metro in the midwest. He would play on a regional high school team. Will playing an unusual sport like this be of any benefit to him? He is going to do it regardless of what I find out, but mom wants to know if risking his pearly whites might be worth it.

Rugby isn’t really an unusual sport, but if he enjoys it and you think he can do extremely well in it then by all means pursue it.
