Spring 2010 Admission Decision

Anybody know when i should be expecting a 'you suck royally' or 'congratulations?'
I am high priority application, but...transfer :(....I'm so nervous! Classes start Jan 6th, orientation is on Jan 4 or 5th and I kinda thought they'd send out decisions by now.

Moronically enough, I didn't apply anywhere else for backup. I was arrogant enough to think I'd get into FSU easy. Luckily, I still have fed funding for the community college I'm in now. Although I'll have 60cr./AA by 12/18 I can still take classes that would count towards my major and try to transfer 2010 fall. But that's besides the point really, so is anyone else applying 2010 Spring?

Not to make light of your discomfort, but I saw an amusing sign in Jim and Milt’s (a restaurant near FSU) that read:

Hire a teenager - while they still know everything

Good luck!

Lol, thanks. Another thing is I didn’t want to sen out multiple $30-ish app fees. That’s what I get for being a cheapskate as well I guess.

107 view and only 1 answer? Come on people, help me out here…please? lol

HANG IN THERE. Transfer decisions might not come until this semeste’sr grades post. They have orientation the day before spring semester for transfers, so just don’t give up. You might hear and have a week’s notice. So be prepared. The biggest hassle is last minute housing, but there is LOTS available so not to worry there either. Kids move out of the dorms and there are lots of empty rooms in doubles. Singles or Ragan’s, probably not so much. Apartment occupancy is not but 80% most places, and there are lots of complexes that rent by the room in a 3 or 4 bedroom student apartment.

KEEP UP THE FAITH and wait it out.

And it would NOT hurt to call a transfer admissions counselor to nicely ask when a decision might be expected and inform them it is you first and only choice. Even better, put it in an email.

One week before classes? Well I guess I’ll just have to swallow one giant chill pill. :frowning: Well the housing is my main concern. Thanks a lot, I don’t feel as frazzled as before. i’m just so impatient and I know that’s bad, but I can’t help it.

I was thinking that this semester’s grades wouldn’t factor into the decision equation. But if they do then that’s great. I have all A’s oh, and that pesky loner ‘B’. :)

Cory,

I’m sure this is small comfort, but FSU has not announced housing decisions to new Spring '10 freshmen either. My son will start FSU this spring but has heard nothing from housing. He called yesterday and was informed that they will not let him know whether he has a dorm room until mid-December.

We figure that we might be spending the week after Christmas in Tallahassee looking for an apartment.

Good luck – hope you get positive news really soon.

Thanks, if you don’t mind me asking, what term did your son apply for? Fall and he was pushed to spring? Or did he specifically apply to Spring?

LTG, there are freshman who do not return for spring. Last year, my D was in Gilchrist. By first week of spring term she was the only one left in a suite of two doubles. Her roommate could not handle sharing a room and moved to a private dorm as an RA where she earned her rent. I think she still was responsible for dorm fees. But regardless she was gone. The suitemates dropped out of FSU. She knew of quite a few beds available. Housing filled some but not all.

I would wait until the last minute if your son really wants to live in the dorms. There is always a room available if you wait it out and are a freshman in spring. And with the cuts in enrollment, apartment complexes ARE NOT FULL and are renting. The only problem is signing a year’s least in JAN. I would wait it out.

Yes, do hang in there. FWIW, here is the saga of one of my son’s friends who transferred for last year’s Spring semester: due to transcript problems of some sort, he did not find out until late December if he got accepted or not. And did not find out that he got housing until the day before classes started. So be packed and ready to rock’n’roll! Good luck! BTW, I know students who changed dorms AFTER classes started, both fall & spring semesters… So never give up! Just keep calling and trying.

really? ok thanks a lot. that makes me feel better

Sounds goode then! Thanks for the replies.

Cory,

My son applied for fall and was offered spring-- great test scores, but low(ish) high school grades and a late application. He did get accepted to other schools for the fall, bince he wanted to go to FSU, he decided to wait it out and work at his Disney job for a semester. He is pretty antsy right now and more than ready to start – especially since Disney has cut his hours. It is great to get reassurance that dorm rooms will be available. We were afraid that, since he’s a spring admit, he’ll have a tougher time fitting in if he goes off campus.

LTG

Just an update to anyone who cares: I GOT INTO FSU TODAY!!! So stoked! Housing #: 0259 so we’ll see how that goes. But I’m so relieved!!! I just want to shout it from every mountain top as corny as that sounds!!!

Congrats and welcome to the Tribe! Thank god it worked out, huh? ;]

Yeah! Thanks a lot! I was getting worried because I have a lower GPA than most of the people that have been getting accepted (3.2) but like I said, I’m ECSTATIC!

Congratulations Cory – It sounds as if you were sweating it for awhile!

Did FSU give you a date (or tell you how you’ll be notified) of housing?

Thanks LTG I definitely was. Though in retrospect 1 month and 4 days wasn’t too long a wait.

FSU just gave me a priority number of 0259 and said I’ll find out mid-December. So I’m crossing my fingers!!!
