Spring 2015 Applicants Unite

I agree! I can’t wait for the letter. Everyday when it doesn’t come I get more anxious. It takes a while. I don’t know why they don’t just do emails and/or put the decision on the portal. That’s what pretty much every other school does. I’m hoping for something by the end of the week or early next week.

I totally understand your position ! I think we all feel that way without actually saying it . At least you have a second choice , I can honestly say I dont . But I was so confident … just remain positive that’s all you can do . & wait …

I already suffer from an anxiety disorder, AND FIT IS NOT HELPING AT ALL!

@limjuliana When you get your bank statements and stuff from your aunt, scan them and send to OISA by email. It’s the fastest way. They replied to mine pretty promptly. Don’t forget to scan the biographical page of your passport. I totally forgot that damn thing and had to attach it later. Long story short, hope it all works out for both of us

@emart95 Don’t apologize, dear. Everyone is on hell of a mood swing when deadline approaches. I realize everyone here are early birds submitting applications in August. It’s been 3 months, we deserve to know. I heard nasty things about bureaucracy at FIT so we really need to build ourselves some tough skin.

Anyone wanna take your mind off the waiting and chill out a lil bit, watch these videos. They’re very uplifting and have insider tips http://www.collegeclicktv.com/videos/fashion-institute-of-technology

I’m glad we’re all on the same page in terms of anxiety, waiting, and their processes at FIT.
@danycam‌ the bureaucracy of most colleges are like this. In America, higher education is nothing more than a business and for the most part, colleges look at their students like they’re bags of money. They don’t really care much about the students and that’s something FIT unfortunately seems to prove overall through their customer service, counselors, and the way they do things in the office. They lose/can never find documents on the regular and it’s a little worrisome but all schools are like that to a degree. Of course, when we all hopefully get to study there, we will get to see there are professors and counselors and staff who really do care about their jobs, FIT, and the students, but as a whole, colleges don’t. My counselor at my other school didn’t even know my name. And honestly, as horrible as it sounds, he wouldn’t have cared one bit if I said I hated the school and was miserable ad wanted to die. He literally didn’t care about me or his other students one bit.

I just hope we finally get our decisions by Thanksgiving; I don’t want to spend it tapping my foot waiting for the mail the next day or the family asking me if I’ve heard. I don’t know about y’all but it amps up the anxiety when someone asks me if I’ve heard back yet.

@Madzzzz amen to that. Spent dinner with my mother and my older brother last night and he did nothing but ask me about colleges and what I’m doing and I have to sit there like “well, idk…”

@emart I feel you, not only that but if I get accepted I want to take advantage of black friday sales and get a nice TV!
I was just talking to my coworker and she has put 2 of her kids through college and I guess if they usually wait till the last possible second. I do NOT want to hear that.

@Madzzz you could always get a TV anyway… lol. I’m still pretty confident we will hear by Thanksgiving. If not, sorry all, I’ll be as disappointed as you all are.

@emart95‌ Well if you’re in the market too, Target will have a 29in 1080p LED TV for $79 on black friday ;)

@Madzzz lol that’s a pretty good deal. But I probably won’t get a TV. I’ll just secretly wish you will want to be my roommate so I can use yours lol. My roommate and I didn’t have a TV when I was at the other college and we made out okay. I just watched lots and lots of Netflix on my computer.

@emart95 Hahaha well we can chat when we get our letters  Since we are heading in during the winter I feel like I’ll be spending a lot of time at first bundled up in bed with netflix or a game (I’m kind of a gamer) so I definitely want a TV

@Madzzz‌ At this rate, if** we get our letters lol. And ditto to staying in bed all day lol. It’d be one thing if New York was easy to get around in the snow but it can be a hassle and dangerous. I’m just kinda hoping for a mild winter with not a lot of snow so we can all actually enjoy exploring NYC because that will be a big part of getting comfortable.

@emart95‌ I know exactly what you mean! Just thinking about trying to maneuver the subway makes me ridiculously uneasy. But I think as long as you’re not in Buffalo you’ll be okay  (… too soon?)

@Madzzz Lol NYC will have its day too, I’m sure. Especially since it’s supposed to be a bad winter. I doubt we’d get 76 in. though but who knows? They were hammered really bad last winter and very little was done in terms of schools cancellation. Fortunately, if we dorm we won’t have to worry about trekking through the ice and snow to the subway for a 15 minute ride, then to walk through more snow just to get to class. We just have to get out of bed and go across the street pretty much which is really nice, but equally as hard on those dark, cold mornings. The subways are pretty tough. And by that I mean that they run pretty close to schedule no matter what. Losing power is the thing to worry about. But navigating the subway system isn’t too hard and isn’t as scary as a lot of people think it is. You probably already know that though. The combination of taking the subway and lots of snow, that’s what I don’t like.
And also, don’t wear really nice boots when it snows. They will be coated white from the salt they spread on the sidewalks and it’s awful to get off.

@emart95‌ thanks for the tips; most of my books are like 30$ target boots. Too much salt to justify spending more. Hahahaha I’m sure that 100 yard walk to school will be especially brutal in the mornings. But I’ve only been to NYC a handful of times, the first time I went on the subway was in September when I was going to visit the school. I need like a “Newbie guide to NYC” book.

@Madzzz‌ It’s only just recently that I have started going more and more frequently. I wasn’t one of those kids whose parents let them do whatever they want. Had I asked my mother in high school if I could go into NYC with friends and no parent, she would’ve laughed at me. Now I just go whenever. Have yet to tour FIT though. Visited the museum once when I was little. The first time I scheduled the tour, it was too snowy that morning so they ended up cancelling it. Then I rescheduled and literally the night before I was supposed to go, I found out I didn’t get in, so I didn’t go. And now if I do get in, I will feel the need to go take an official tour one day, and also to enjoy the beauty of New York at Christmastime. Odds are you’ll make friends who either know the city well or are upperclassmen and things will start to come naturally. It’s really not a hard city to navigate, the subways can be iffy but it’s really not bad. Any time I make a trip in to do something and/or meet up with my boyfriend, I have to plan everything and I am the GPS. Gotten confused a few times while leading the way but it’s hard to get lost.

@emart95 I’ve been to Boston and NYC definitely seems a lot easier to navigate. I have one of those rechargeable batteries on my holiday wishlist as a backup because I’m sure I’ll be having the map up on my phone until I get the hang of things. The tour is nice, I LOVE that they have a starbucks on campus, and I don’t know if you knew this but you get 6 free acupuncture/massage sessions a semester, as well as a small gym. I took the tour with my mom because we actually went to school there and found it hilarious that they have quite a few sports teams. Have you checked out the clubs? There are so many that I want to take a look at, and I guess that’s now I know this is the school for me; I really want to be involved where usually I’m pretty apathetic about extracurricular activities and being an active member at the school.

So I just called FIT to see if they could tell me anything !!! She said that letters will go out between December 1st- 15th and that’s not what I was aware of . I thought the latest date was the 1st . I don’t see how that’s possible when registering for new students is the 16. She said that’s all she can tell me ! Ugh

@Rikki1‌ That’s ridiculous!! I’m going to hit up the forum for FIT on facebook and confirm.
