Spring 2015 Applicants Unite

I have my fingers crossed for all y’all though. I hope everyone gets accepted :)

@ebs1995‌, lol that’s fine. I was just saying for anyone. Did you apply for FMM the first time when you got waitlisted? If so and you have been in school, it should up your chances of getting in. They generally accept a good number of students but it’s so application and transcript-based. And @Madzzz‌, you really never know. If you were involved with extracurricular activities and wrote a strong essay, you could definitely still get in. Are you a senior or a transfer?

@emart95‌ I’m a transfer, I had some personal stuff happen and I dropped a bunch of classes last year which led to my GPA tanking. Went to makeup artistry school as a way to “find myself” I guess and that just sort of inspired me to do marketing for cosmetic companies. I’ve been working full time, and worked through high school so no extracurricular activities… I hope my essay is strong enough to compensate for my "W"s. I know they really look at your liberal arts classes, and I did well in those, my science classes not so much. I majored in Forensics after high school- definitely looks more fun on Bones.

@Madzzz Lol well I think if you talked about that at all in your essay, they will understand and consider you. They are big on accepting older students, transfers, and continuing education students. Hopefully you’ll get in. If you don’t and still want to go, I’ve heard that if you apply as an evening and weekend student, which you can do for this major, you have a higher chance of getting in and you are still full-time and still eligible for housing on campus. I’m not sure if you have a back-up plan or another school you’re planning on going to though. If not, it’s a good idea if you don’t mind shifting your schedule. I would have considered it personally, but didn’t really think about it until after the fact. That way I could have worked during the day and also attended my classes.

@emart95 I had actually accidentally applied for the weekend/evening program at first and changed it to the full time day program, because it mentioned on my application that it was part time I assumed that I wouldn’t be eligible for on campus housing. I think I’ll look into it, but thank you for the encouragement! I’ve been a ball of nerves since @danycam got accepted. I figured it would be easier finding a retail weekend/evening job, since there’s no way I will be able to survive there without some sort of income, especially being so close to MAC and Sephora  I hope you get in as well! I’m sure we will both let each other know what the final verdict is :)

@Madzzz‌ I thought I heard you were still considered full-time while studying in the evening weekend program. I may be wrong but from what I do know, as long as they have housing available, you can get housing I’m like 99% sure. If you decide to apply in the future this way, I would definitely double check something. A girl who has posted on YouTube about her application process at FIT went through this as well and was accepted evening/weekend, and then lived on campus I’m pretty sure. You may be right about the part time thing though which can affect any aid you get (especially NYS TAP because it only works for full-time students). And I totally hear you the needing shopping money thing lol, especially at a school like FIT! The other school I am interested in attending notified me saying that in order to receive housing for this spring semester, I have to submit my deposit this week but it is refundable until early January. So I may have to submit that in case I don’t get into FIT either so now I’m a bundle of nerves for every possible reason!

@emart95 Yeah I’ve already made my schedule at my Community College just in case. I just sorta skimmed the FIT website and it definitely didn’t say that E/W students can’t stay on campus. I feel like it would be pretty difficult to meet 12 credits with only evenings and weekends. But hey, who knows. I hate waiting though, this has been brutal.

@Madzzz Eh, probably not. Most classes are 3 credits and if you take several a week, even if they only meet once a week, you could easily have 12 credits. I took a night class at another SUNY school that was a few hours long that only met once a week and it was 3 credits for one semester. Was it the most fun class ever? No. Tolerable? Yes. So they usually break the classes into longer periods and run them once a week I think. Some may be more frequently. Just depends I guess. It’s not a bad option if you really want to be in NYC and go to FIT though. And FIT is so notorious for this. A lot of it is disorganization I feel, but also just because they can. They drag it out until the last final minute. Even if I didn’t get in, I’d rather them just rip the bandage.

@emart95 I hear ya, a lot of things are riding on their decision. My boss wants to know if I will be continuing to work part time, obviously I have a long shopping list and would love to take advantage of black friday deals for TVs and other miscellaneous dorm room essentials. The sooner I know the sooner I can finally breathe again and figure out my next step. I was kind of hoping that SUNY transfers would also take priority, but I hear that’s not the case.

@Madzzz SAME! My boss started asking the other day if I knew what I was doing and I hate just having to shrug my shoulders because I have no clue. What SUNY were you at? As for getting priority, I wouldn’t have expected that much. If anything, relaying documents and information should be easier and streamlined, but I wouldn’t have expected top priority when it comes to admission. My shot is and should be as good as anyone else’s.

@emart95‌ I’m from the Albany area so I attended HVCC while I tried to figure out what I wanted to do. I was also kind of hoping for a transfer agreement between HVCC and FIT like they have with so many other SUNY schools, so I have no idea what will and wont transfer over.

@Madzzz Well good luck! I hope it all works out!

hi guys, i am a deferred international applicant and i got the acceptance email today along with the international financial statement form. And on the form it says that a “modest” estimate of cost of attendance (book supplies+ tuition+fees+room and board+health insurence) is $43 thousand which is different from what it says on fit official site. Does anyone know anything abt this??? (FREAKING OUT)

oh they said they included the personal expenses in the estimate too!

but since on the official site it says its abt 30 thousand… it is not making me sense and this is making me freak out …

@limjuliana, there are a lot of fees involved. I would say that whatever they sent you with your letter is closer to the price you will pay per year than the website says. As a NYS resident, the cost to go to FIT is significantly reduced to about $20,000-$25,000 a year depending on the housing I choose so considering how many other fees may be involved because you are an international student, nearing $43,000 sounds about right. I would call FIT tomorrow and straighten it out with them though. And don’t take my word because I don’t know for sure. This is just what I’m thinking.

@emart95 thank you for your response. i sent them an email and im waiting for their response. but i will be so upset if the info on the form is actually right, bc i dont think i will be able to attend if that is the case…

@limjuliana I would still call them if you can. They’re not very efficient or effective when it comes to emailing. They’re much nicer over the phone. I’m sorry that this is hindering the possibility of you attending FIT and I hope it gets all figured out.

@emart95 oh, I think I might call them tomorrow then! Thank you so much

@limjuliana, did you get to talk to them today? What’d they say? And I got so scared. Got a regular envelope addressed to me from FIT today so I figured it was a rejection letter but it was actually some financial forms I had sent in to them and they were telling me they already had the forms. Phew. That was close.
