Spring January 2017 Admission on Common App? Check it or no?

“I would like to be considered for First Year Spring Admission in January 2017.”

Does it mean that they would directly consider me for spring admission instead of fall admission? I don’t really want to wait half a year though. Or do they only consider spring admission for me if I got waitlisted or if I wasnt competitive enough for fall admission?

I’d only do the Spring Admission if there’s absolutely no way I am qualified for fall entrance. But I am afraid that if I don’t check this option I might be outrightly rejected in March and not even considered for spring.

I also heard that some folks last year who DIDNT say yes to this got an email after waitlisted that they were considered for Spring? Is it true? I just have wayy too many questions about this.

Same question here LOL… Please enlighten us, anybody!

It’s a new program that was only started up again last year. My guess is that if you check the spring admission box they will consider you for fall admission first, but if you don’t quite make the cut (but they still like you) they might offer you a spot for the spring. If you don’t check the box and you get rejected for fall admission, they probably won’t consider you for spring.

@Ranza123 Will that decision come in March, too? Like with all other applicants who chose to not check the box?

Also I just checked with my family and they really protested delaying my college experience one semester… Welp. Really not sure what to do now.

Does checking the box show that we are super interested in attending Cornell?

I don’t think it would hurt to check it if it means another chance. When March rolls around and you are admitted for Spring 17, you can easily choose not to go if your family is set against it!

Any definite answers? If I check the box will I still be considered for fall?

S3 applied ED last year and was deferred and then offered Spring Admit 2016 during last march admissions process. He spent this past semester at our local CC with all credits transferring and will graduate Cornell in Spring 2019. He is honored to have been accepted for Spring admit looks forward to moving into his Cornell dorm on January 21.

Is spring admit option opened to all the colleges at Cornell or just some of them?

Only to 4 schools: CALS, CAS, hotel, human ecology. I remember I read somewhere that Cornell chose to not do spring option for other schools (like engineering) because curriculum availability will be impacted for spring admits.

i’m applying to engineering

should i not check the box then??

please someone help!!!

the website didn’t have the option but somehow common app still lets me do that! someone plz bump

Is this an option for engineering? Because engineering isn’t listed on their website, but the box is there on my common app

I submitted my application to engineering with it checked but I have no idea what it’ll mean to the adcom since engineering doesn’t offer the program.

It’s weird that they let you check the box for engineering, but it won’t hurt you. If you don’t want to start a semester late then don’t check it. They won’t hold that against you; it’s understandable to want to start with the rest of your class. If you check it and get offered spring admission but later decide that’s not what you want, you don’t have to accept their offer.
