Are there any top MT colleges who allow spring transfers to audition into the program? I'm guessing not but just thought I'd check! thanks!

I don’t have a list for you and it is likely a small list anyway.

And not sure about your definition of “top” but…

Look into American University (BA in MT by audition). The university itself does take spring transfer students. I don’t know if you can audition for the MT program for spring transfer or not and you could call and find out.

But I have a current freshman applicant who got into American for MT (but isn’t going) and was offered spring admissions (even though he was trying for fall admissions) and so this leads me to believe someone can start in this major in the spring.

Also, I know they have a Nov. audition date that is meant for either ED applicants or internal transfers into the major. Not sure if that means you can apply and audition on that date as a transfer for spring coming from outside the school but it is worth asking as it may be possible.

Otherwise, you need to ask each school directly. But my feeling is that a BFA program is not going to have a spring transfer option as it is a lock step year by year curriculum for four years.

Kent State University has had students transfer in during the spring semester. They were students that attended the November audition.

thanks for the information! what about reputable BA musical theatre programs? does anyone know of any that allow spring transfers?

PACE and Marymount Manhattan have auditions to enter in the spring semester. They were in November this past year.

I know when my D was at OCU, there was a guy who transferred in at spring semester. You would need to call them, but they do have a November audition date.

I have a friend who transferred into Texas State MT this past January.
