SRD Waitlist

Hi I just turned in my contract for SRD and I am number 50 on the waitlist. How likely is it that I will get off the waitlist an into the dorm? If anyone had any idea about this, please let me know! Thanks!

I was number 35 on the wait list so I decided to send a contract to the Castilian instead. I dont know how many girls on the wait list end up getting on, but I know that it is the most desired dorm on campus and the likelihood of 50 girls deciding not to live there is unlikely. Just my opinion, good luck with it all though, I wish you the best! :)

For 50 girls to come off the wait list is a huge stretch. That would mean 15% of the girls that have signed a binding contract, would have to change their minds, and lose their deposit. It’s interesting because this came up in conversation at lunch today with some friends who have girls going into SRD and Hardin. And it is my understanding that Hardin is still taking contracts.

Back when I was in high school, you had to get on the waiting list for SRD very early. I think I got on it when I was a HS sophomore! Your sponsoring Mason also had to be a relative (it was OK if he had already passed away). My grandfather had maintained his active status just so that my mom could live in SRD, because back in the 50s, you really needed a father who was a Mason to have a chance of getting in.

Here’s what they told us last year…my D was #13 on the waitlist and they told us that only 10 girls had gotten off of it the year before. My D didn’t want to risk having to live in Jester or worse, so we checked out Hardin House. They were still taking contracts at that time so we decided to go with Hardin. The reason that they still had space available is because thier contract is more binding than SRD’s and the deposit is a little more. If you change your mind and dont go to UT, you are still bound by the contract at Hardin which is about $12000.00 per year (or more, depending on which house you live in). It states that you would have to pay the $12000.00 or find someone to take your space. That is why they still have space. The director there did tell us that there are some girls that have been on the list since kindergarten because they want to live in the same room thier grandmother and mother lived in. It is very traditional…Jenna Bush lived there when her dad was president (in Red House I think).
